Topic: PP.com updates Posted: 09 Feb 2006 at 12:59pm |
So I have been cranking out some work on the site, and everyone will
start to see some things changing around here soon. Of course all of
the changes are things that people have requested, so hopefully it will
not make anyones participation decrease!
If you see a change that you don't like. Post it here. If any change
has split opinion we will put it to a vote. After 3 days the majority
will rule.
As I make new changes I will Edit this Message so you can see the latest goods.
On the To Do List
- Revised River Page
Add Trip Reports, Add Past 5 Trips, Weather Links, and Maps - Deticated Swaking Page
- Redesign Tripplanner / Edit Trips / Change Notification to Joined Parties
- Improved Calendar for Events / Pool Sessions / Trips / Parties @ D4's
- Improved Links Area for User Submitted Links
- Improved Gallery for user Photo's and Video's and River Media
- Regional Gauges (Oregon, B.C., Idaho, California)
- Dating Service .... what the .... who said that ?
Finished Changes
- Private Messenger added to every page of the site, so you always see new messages
- Homepage changed to only show new and changed topics rather than just new messages
- Revisions Made to the river pages, Maps Fixed and Weather Links added

James,
I just noticed how the recent post on the home page no longer allows for a preview of the last text posted. It now rather states the last time a post was made. Was this change intentional?
I kinda liked the one liner text available for review without having to open that post. hope this makes sense.
Thanks for your work!
Cheers and Blessings

First off lets get the Lingo right.
The correct term is called a mouseover. You used to be able to
read the first few lines of a post by mousingover the link. This is not
the case anymore because I am not displaying the posts but rather the
subjects that have new posts on them. I could set it up to have a
preview message mouseover, but it would take a lot more work and it
might slow down the homepage's load time because I would have to query
the database each time for this information. Lets see if it really
makes a difference ....

For those that are interested. I am working on a new version of our site for PP.com
The new site will basically have all of the features listed above, with
a redesigned menu that should load faster and take less bandwidth off
the server. Along with the new site will be a redesigned forum that
should really optimize the interaction with the SQL server. This will
result in faster loading pages, and better response times for pages
with multiple queries.
I want to make this site open to everyone so you can see the work as it
is being done. I obviously do not represent the boating community as a
whole, but rather just my own preferences which may be shared by some
of you. My goal is to let anyone that wants to be involved make
suggestions or changes as I am building the new site so it is truly a
site that represents the interest of our whole community.
There are a few details that I would like to add.
1. The only suggestion I am turning down ahead of time is Blum's
repeated request for a PP.com girl like localpadder that shakes her
rump when you mouse over her. (Sorry Jon, no bootie shakers on the new
site)
2. The colors and design is open to change just as the whole site is, get involved and see your vision implemented.
3. The new site will of course be like the old site. FREE
4. Remember that Speed is important just like Coolness, so keep yer ideas in the kb range not the mb and gig range.
And Finally the new Testing Site for our Upcoming redesign of Professorpaddle

good job on the updates. i like the changing pictures on the banner. they just put a usgs guage on the solduck, it could be helpful for figuring out the mosh pit is doing, maybe it could be added to the river flows page.
