Is it really flowing at 2000, or is it actually 3000?

Yea I would say it is like 41.476% higher than the gauge says.

Just take the gauge and multiply by 1.41476

it felt a lot lower today than last weekend. But the hole still got me; I slept in and missed most of you and forgot all about that lovely threesome. First time I've ever swam without my board; luckily we both flushed.
More water, please.

Ran Top Tye today and it was a good low level. Watch the ledge below Crack in the Earth. One of our group got stuck. Didn't flush in or out of the boat, Had to use the ol rope. That is a great run.

I've been noticing that the Sky gauge seemed to be off about 1000 or 1500 cfs so I wrote USGS and here is their response:

"Thanks for your interest in USGS streamflow information. Here is the note from the Web page for station 12134500 (Skykomish River near Gold Bar): "Discharge data unreliable because of known significant changes in the channel bed that have occurred as a result of the recent flood flows. The results of discharge measurements being made at the gage will be used to define a new stage-discharge rating for use in determining reliable discharges." In our ongoing effort to redefine the stage-discharge relationship, we performed a manual discharge measurement on May 28, 2009, and subsequent adjustments will be made to recalibrate the gage. We know that you and many others use our streamflow data to stay safe on the rivers, and we will continue to monitor the performance of this gage and make adjustments as we acquire more measurements. Thanks again for taking time to send us your observations, and we hope you'll continue to use our Web pages to "know before you go" for your safety."

The gauge has been reading low so please be aware of that the next time you run the Sky.

I sent an e-mail to them last week and just got the response yesterday.  Of coarse I cut and pasted it on PP before reading the other posts that they updated it.  It would have been nice if they had told me that in the response too.

So is it corrected to where the Sky gauge reads like it did in past years, or is it reading the same way it did in the end of June this year?

The email seems to be saying they haven't changed it since May 28th. When I was there in late June it was still not right compared to 2008 or 2007.

Which is it?

The adjusted is more just a few weeks ago and supposedly it's back on track or close to it.  I'll know more after I paddle it this evening.

I think the gauge now reads a little high.  Last weekend it seemed lower than the gauge indicated.  I remember Ned's being wider with the same flow in years past/

Leland, sometime ago, say month or so the Sky guage was updated- the change was a 1k difference and that was a very obvious fix.  Seems like with any changes in the guage there is always some small difference... like a check-book account being off in cents rather than several hundred dollars.  At anyrate I'd count it as good as good gets now.

Well the USGS was right about the river bed changing.  In some places it seems like the gauge is right on and in other places it seems like it's about 100 cfs off, meaning it should read a little higher.  All in all I would say that it's pretty close.  Some of the places that used to be scrapy at this level are not anymore which is nice but some other places are.  Reagardless, the river was still fun last night.

Thanks Mike and Courtney for the feedback! I'll adjust the numbers in the new guidebook *again*, and pray that another flood doesn't change it all around again before it hits the shelves in spring.
