Dude, that seems kinda harsh.
How do you know that "NRS fabric sucks" and that "IR fabric goes to crap after a year or so" and that "palm isn't very breathable"? I totally agree with you when you say that Kokatat is the shiznit, but it seems that you're bagging on the other guys without cause.
Do you really have first hand experience with NRS, IR, and Palm's products and you stil manage paddle almost every day in your Kokatat drytop?
Or are you just telling us what you've heard from random people that may or may not know what they're talking about?

It's just an opinion, Dan. I share the same opinion about IR. Man. Everyone is feisty this month!
Horner, that's exactly what I was thinking, I just need to get a drytop as well, since mine doesn't really work anymore....

Well, while we are giving opinions...
I too am a big fan of Kokatat. When it came time to buy drytops, we purchased the Kokatat Helix drytops (uses Tropos, Kokatat's proprietary GoreTex knock-off instead of GoreTex).
My thinking was that we have the top-of-the-line Kokatat GMER drysuits that we use most of the year. The only time we are using the drytops is while traveling or once it has really warmed up here substantially and the drysuits are just too hot (not often). The nice thing about the Tropos drytop is that it is actually lighter weight (probably less durable as well) as the GoreTex drytop from Kokatat. I viewed the lighter weight as a benefit, given our usage scenario. Pricing is about 1/2 price of the same drytop from Kokatat with GoreTex. So, something else to consider if you hadn't already considered this option.
Obviously, your usage model may be very different than mine. But for me, getting the top of the line drysuit made lots of sense since 85+% of the time I am paddling, I am using it. Getting the top of the line drytop and shorty didn't make as much sense to me.
My two cents... Worth about that!

I have an NRS drysuit and it has lasted at least two years, I just wish I would have gotten one with a tunnel. I like the styling of the IR suits, but style is for girls. jk I recomend spending the dough for the quality, mostly because I've used my drytop like five or six times since I moved to Washington. It's a Bomber gear one and has lasted me a long time, too bad they don't make drytops anymore. Speaking of Feisty I sure like the singer Feist.

A few people from the 3-cities have the NRS drytops and really seem to like them. Some have had them for a few years and others only a short period. Middle ground wise I'd say they're great.
However, I have to agree with the Kokatat Gore-Tex opinion for dry tops. I've had one now for four years and the only thing wrong with it is that the "GORE-TEX" plastic logo has fallen off and only one "E" remains.
If you're looking for a good dry-suit that isn't as expensive and comes standard with the booties/relief zipper then I'd go with the Kokatat Tropos drysuit. The colors are pretty standard, but I've had mine for two years and it's holding up fine.
It's not GORE-TEX breathable or as durable (theoretically), but it is breathable and I've abused mine pretty well and it's holding up fine. Keeps me warm and dry. Just my $.02. Have fun procuring.
