Before I spend much time digging around I figured I'd ask if anyone's got the basic beta:

-How far would you have to hike from a locked gate to reach putin (and takeout?)
-Anyone done this in recent memory?

I called the timber company once to see if I could get in there legally and the answer was no. She told me not to even hike past the gate. I put the details in the river description. I would be interested to hear about the gorge too since I live close even if the hike were legal I would check it out.

Using gmaps/earth it appears to be ~4 miles from the bridge at Orville Rd near Lake Kaposin to the river a little past the powerhouse. The it would be 3-4 miles right up the river.
I just called and was told it was illegal to hike also. Annual pass is $175 but they are sold out. The same company allows walk-in access on the Snoq but not the Puyallup, pretty lame.

I know some folks who did it years ago from the park side, coming in on one of the tribs...

It's been on my hit list for awhile. Rumor has it that you could put-in upstream of the company property but it would be a long day.

I've been looking for but can't find a map of the cambell group land surrounding the gorge to figure out exactly how much land they manage out there. If anyone has any luck let me know.

Yeah, that's the solution.
Take Carbon River Rd (165) to the NW Park entrance. As far as I can tell it's about 2 miles of hiking on the road then a mile or so or pain getting down to the river. The only issue then is how much flow is in the Mowich River. Looks pretty flat and braided.
I'd guess you'd want the Puyallup on the upper end of the recommended flows.
Hard to resist a description that compares the river to the Carbon Gorge.

I've been wanting to get in here for years. And the fact that it used to be $16 to get in...

I'd be down for a 1dayer this weekend. 6 am meeting at takeout.
The Puyallup at Orting prediction doesn't make me optimistic that it will be low enough by Sunday, but it's too early to make that call.

Ran the Puyallup last weekend. It was a great run and I will definitely go back.
There is a hole that is worth being aware of if you plan on doing the run. At our flow I got stuck, but it was possible to get out. It is a fairly straightforward move but could become harder with higher water.

crazy about McEwan just showing up to WA and then getting on one of the most unrun runs in the neighborhood.
