Hmmm-
not to be critical at all- but if 2pm is our target time to get off da water, maybe we ought to bump the meet time forward to 10:30. Just a suggestion...

cuz last saturday there was a whole "gaggle" of kayaks and their assorted owners in the BZ T.O. zone, and the whole "herding cats" phoenomenon ensued.

This was awesome, BTW- seeing upwards of 30 peeps show for Farmlands or Truss or both!

Just something to think about, guys- since this "party" will require more organization than a normal trip, despite the fact that some of us will be travelling RATHER FAST downstream.

I will either be in a hardshell to set safety for multi-person inflatable craft, or I will be paddling as fast as possible in such an inflatable craft--

Leif wants to carpool down and I may join him. I am still not 100% sure though as I may already be in Oregon working.

I am still checking my schedule to see if I can make it. In the meantime I thought I would call the trip leader at the phone number above but all I got was a really nasty recording, something about Wild One on One adventures...

Could someone make sure I did not mis-dial that phone number? 1-800-boofonu

I mean I thought this was a group trip not a one on one nasty adventure.

so my slacker ass didnt get back in touch with everbodys in time and they dropped us for a band. the good news is we r going to play it on the side of toms van by a fire in the woods like all grass root paddles should be.

other then that people r getting stoked and the level should be between 3 and 3.5 which is the money level for a raft, also we should have plenty of room if the weather   gos to crap

So I'm considering heading down (from Tacoma) for this shindig. I'm just looking for some opinions. I've never rafted class V stuff however I have rafted a lot, and I'm not a class V kayaker either. It looks like some rapids can be portaged, but is this a good river to take the step up for class V rafting? Especially considering the large group? I know that this has to be a personal decision, but I know that some rivers are better than others to be introduced to class V.
Either way I imagine I'll be heading down because I there will be some boating even on the easier sections.

It is up to you and a decision you need to make but if you can hop in with someone who is a good rafter and knows the run fairly well you should be alright. We have taken a couple people down in a raft who had almost no experience (one had done the deschutes a couple of times and one had one or two trips on the upper kalamath) and the trips went without incidence. I would call this a good river to raft as the lines are pretty wide open and Big bro and BZ can be portaged without too much problems. The zigs are probably the hardest rapids to raft. We have rafted the section probably 25+ times now but I will say I remember I was scared sh*tless the first time down. Hope this helps

also forgot about double drop. Usually this one goes smooth but once in a while gets a little hairy in a raft. The trick is to paddle hard off the top and make sure you hold onto something tight in the raft as when you hit the first hole the raft fills with water making it nearly impossible to flip and as long as you are holding onto something tight you will come out in the raft regardless of what happens going through!

This is a great opportunity to run the Truss with locals and Truss veterans.   I urge everyone who has the skills and motivation to come out and join the party!

Bring your raft, we'll pair ya up with a local and show ya the lines!

the truss is a great introduction to harder rafting, out side of big bro and BZ its probably more in the 4+ range.

I hope you make the trip panchos

Thanks everyone for the information. I'm trying to get a raft from a friend, but either way I'll be there. I'm liz's brother and she told me this should be a load of fun.

I plan on driving down friday to kayak the BZ corner to Northwestern lake section - anyone else want to come? or else I'll just try and find some people at the put-in.  Then I'll raft on Saturday, and I'd like to be teamed up with someone who knows the stretch.

Anyone else going to be camping friday night too?  Also I'd be willing to carpool, I'm heading down from Puyallup/Tacoma on friday and coming back Saturday night or sunday morning.
