Ok, bored at work, maybe a bump will get me a paddle partner :)

I live in Mukilteo, I have a boxtruck that locks up tight, I'll drive....meet ya anywhere, just about anytime.  I really need to work on ALL my skills, so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
I am a 26 and just got into whitewater kayaking in the last year. I am looking to meet other boaters in the area to get out more and improve my paddling. I have a semi-reliable roll down and have taken several classes. Looking to get out on Class II - III+. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I can go almost any time if someone has an extra dry top, and a spare throwbag wouldn't go amiss either. I'm a dumbass and forgot both back in colorado, but I'd be comfortable taking people down anything 3+ or below.

Sadly I think I'm out of paddling time. Made it out on middle middle, but I'm in Canada until Tuesday, and I'm leaving early Friday.

My shoulder is ready to go, and I've developed a roll.  Rivers seem to be swelling, so I'm not sure where to go, but I'm up for a novice run if anyone wants to go. Pretty much anytime. I'll drive.

My friend and I get out on some weekends and do some easier 2+ and 3 runs. Feel free to PM me with your name/number and I can keep you in the loop when we go.

Was really hoping to get out with somebody tomorrow if possible. Family is 1300 miles away, so I'm free after tonite. I recently welded up a gifted Nomad 8.5 and confirmed I can roll it in a pool. Hoping to join somebody that can point me in good directions.  I'm in Mukilteo but can drive.

gotta cooler full of beer and other goodies

Try creating a new post Brett. More people will likely see that. I'm either resting tomorrow or heading out to the upper Green(haven't decided yet), but Sunday or next week I don't have any plans. We could make a Sky run or something simple like that.

Looks like some big rain tomorrow. Will that effect flows on the green?

Back in town, bored as all hell, looking to get on the water. I can comfortably paddle most class IV, beater my way down short class V, and feel comfortable rescuing on III-IV. Shoot me a pm or something!

Oh, didn't you hear? Kayaking is dead. All the rivers are dry and water rationing is in effect. lol (only somewhat true.) I'm in Tacoma... I have family down now so this week I'm a little tied up.. but maybe next week if the snoqualamie falls run is in we could do some practice. PM me with what runs you've done and I'll send the you tube link that first got my roll going.

Hey Thad2000, can you please post that roll video link you like on here? It's helpful to know what videos have worked for people. Usually when I try to teach people to roll it looks like I'm trying to intentionally drown them.

Irene :) I just sent a link to someone else and then saw you posted the same one from the Gene X series... I loved those ones. This link for a roll is uber easy. I got it the first time after wrecking attempts for a c to c.. after this I was better able to figure out the mechanics and do a c to c.. I used it to teach my son.. and he was able to get it right away too. anyway, it's short and sweet and doesn't require focusing on hip snap.. head position.. etc. Not great for playboats because you can stern squirt. It's a good starter.

...another good vid for rolls:

https://vimeo.com/5208125

This is just a preview, but enough to get a look at the roll it teaches. the full video is a DVD. Slightly different roll from the one Thad posted... similar start but more upright finish position.

Ah yes, I remember the 'kayak roll indentifier'. :)

I like this troubleshooting video from H2O Dreams too:

https://youtu.be/Hmc_S6gjt9g

When we were in NZ I talked to some of the new graduates from that school in Murcheson (mostly Class II boaters with bomber rolls, plus some with on and offside hand rolls) and they said they were taught to have the paddle blade directed slightly into the water (like 25 or 30 degrees) when starting the roll, the opposite of what I had thought, seeing as it seems this would set you up to have your paddle blade dive.  But apparently with the dynamics of the paddle shape it creates lift instead, like an airplane wing. I find the blade moves faster that way, with less drag and it just overall makes it easier to roll.

It's all fun and games until someone loses a paddle.

New paddler in Skagit County, I'm looking to get out with more experienced people to show me lines down the rivers. Last year I went on a 9 day beginner course on the Rouge River in Oregon. Had a great time and over the past winter I started collecting all my gear. Went back to the Rouge on a 5 day trip through the wild and scenic section. Learning more every time I get out. Have a rough roll that needs work, can brace somewhat, really worked on eddy hopping this last trip. Need to network with other paddlers out there will to take a new guy out. I'm open to paddle most mornings (locally ), and my weekends are wide open.

Hi all, I just picked myself up a Mamba and am really looking for others to start paddling with. Currently live in north Seattle and have done one all day paddle class. Looking to really get into the sport.

Get at me!
