FYI- I'm not sure what the status of these are, but I thought some of you would like to know that Snohomish County PUD is trying to put hydro-dams in front of:

Sunset Falls (A Preliminary Permit has been granted!!!)

PDF Preliminary Permit

Project Layout

Local Resistance/Info

Calligan Creek and Hancock Creek

If you would like to get involved, information can be found on the savesunsetfalls.com page by scrolling down to the post made on 02 March 2012 by the Sierra Club, or by going to your State Legislator. Below is a link to the Sierra Club's efforts against State Bill (SB) 6406:

only new news is that FERC approved the prelim. permit, so the project continues on into the review process.  sucks that Sno-PUD thinks a protected watershed is OK to dam up.

Does anyone know who owns the rights to the watershed? If it isn't Sno-PUD, that entity must be getting a pretty fat check out of it.

Seems odd to me that we're working so hard to remove dams in some areas, because we recognize how damaging it is to the environment, and yet it's OK to build a few more elsewhere?? WTH!?!?!

I'm certain that the civil argument is about the demand for electricity... Too bad we use so much of it, and carelessly so!! Ladies, stop using your hair dryers, you look beautiful without it; Gentlemen, stop using so many electric power tools, you're still a man without them!! *HAHA*

i realy dont understand this project .... does Sno-PUD realy need more power ?  or are they just gona sell power into the grid for Cali to run there ACs?... last i checked we have no shortage of power here in WA
it sounds like a large structure  ...140 foot wide , 45 foot tall v-screen intake  and 2000 foot long, 19 foot diam.  penstock  .....and 8.5 miles of new power lines ..... yikes

funny thing is that the only reason the Sky is wild and sceinic is becouse it had no good dam sites back in the day so they never built any .... all the rivers with good dam sites (epic canyons) got built on (cowlitz, lewis, chelan, nissqualy, sultan, ext ext ext)

maby when they build it we will get to see vidio of someone falling in the intake and washing down the penstock into the turbines instead of washing down the falls like last year
