Just wondering if any one knows about and Seattle area pools that do kayak sessions!?
I wanna get in a pool and do some video stuff to see how my rolling looks. Let me know if anyone knows about some sessions or would like to join!

Here in the PNW, pool sessions tend to happen in the Fall-Winter-Spring and not in the Summer. Point being that there are enough warmish lakes to work in (Washington, Sammamish, etc.)  that a pool is not necessary. Plus in summer most public pools are being used for other things, and school (University, high school) is not in session.

Typically the pool sessions are run by:

OAC, at Juanita High in Fall-Winter-Spring, open to all with a modest fee
WKC rotating locations depending on date, check their calendar
UKC at UW but for University Club members only
UPS at their pool in Tacoma, open to the public with a small fee
NWOC for their rolling classes at Shoreline pool

Anyway, that's what I know, maybe there are others

I use the lake in the summer. Its damn warm compared to the river and cheaper than pool sessions.
why not!

Dale,
I actually looked into the Medgar Pool. It costs $81 an hour to rent plus a $25 per hour lifeguard fee. From what I understand Kayaks are okay, but the answer I got didn't sound as confident as it should have. Friday early paddle?

That sounds do-able. Did you find out what hours the pool is available?

I did not get into any specifics about times. They are closed for a month from 08/04/2012-09/03/2012, but I don't imagine we would want to get in there so soon. If there is some genuine interest I would be willing to do a more substantial follow up and take the lead on this, but I just called and asked whether we could even get in there and what it would cost.

i'm interested, it's way better than going all the way to tacoma.  and close is nice if it's at 8 or 9pm like the other sessions.

but not really interested until the lake is cold.  so like, winter.

So let's do this...
Send me an email if you are interested in a Medgar Evars pool session telling me when you would like to see them start up, what times work for you, how much a session is worth to you, how many should there be (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc...), and what your level of participation is likely to be (how often you would come). I will keep the interested parties updated on what we may or may not be able to do. Sending me an email does not commit you to anything it simply lets me know the level of interest. If and when something gets worked out I will post the info on PP. Thanks.

I'd be interested when it gets cold, but I am only a temporary resident of this lovely state of WA. I won't know till later this summer if I will be here for part of the winter

I hope the e-mail chain gets'a cranking! This will take a bit of support, count on a fraction of the support you receive to be realistic ($h1t happens), but don't let that deter anyone! If there seems to be more than enough support, you're probably good to go. Many people don't speak up (well, conservatives don't have any issue being assholes, but that's beside the point).

after work Monday at Lake Washington by the stadium near the docks. warm water this time of year and a good place to stand next to someone and assist them as they attempt rolls. if anyone seems interested then I'll start a new thread on Sunday.

Idylwood Park on the west shore of Lake Sammamish has a great spot (tho parking is rough on a nice day) with a sandy sloping entrance and mellow boat traffic. It also has much less milfoil than Lake Washington. The Waterfront Activities Center )(WAC) just east of the UW Stadium is a popular spot with an easy entrance but can be tricky to find with all the new ongoing construction plus you have to pay to park. And the milfoil there is pretty bad, and it is without a lot of shallows for instruction. If you do go there it is a bit better just southeast of the south-most dock, the water is deeper and no milfoil, but then obviously an instructor can't stand. The water is plenty warm tho, and there are rest rooms at the WAC.
