Yo All,

The Callaghan Race is happening this weekend. Flows are looking medium low and lower than previous years race events. If you want some Callaghan this weekend could be it for the season. Moreover, if you want to paddle the Callaghan in the future with good flows we need everyone to there to show BC and Innergex how important the resource is to us and the paddling community

Recent post from Steve;

If you're wondering about the status of the race considering that the low water season seems to have started a little earlier than expected, here's the details:

If the Callaghan is at a runnable flow (which may be low), the plan is as originally posted with a solo race on the Cheakamus on Friday evening then the Callaghan Race proper on Saturday.

If the Callaghan really is done for the year and is too low to race safely, the Cheakamus race will be moved to Saturday evening and the event on the Callaghan will be cancelled. Either way, there will be a race happening on Saturday to celebrate kayaking in Whistler.

Here's an update from Steve.

PS - For those of you who don't know Innergex is actively evaluating a hydro project on Callaghan. If you value the Callaghan as a free flowing river, being at the event will show a lot of support.

Here's the latest on the races this weekend. It seems like the Callaghan is surviving with enough water, so as of tonight the plan is to have both races with an Upper Cheak race on Friday evening and the Callaghan Team Race on Saturday, as planned!

Here's the details:Callaghan Race will be as described on the web page: http://www.liquidlore.com/callaghan/

Keep in mind that we might operate with a modified race course to avoid having people run the dangerous first ledge at low water, and to keep people from smashing themselves on the rock in ODB. Decision to be made on Saturday.The Cheak race is a solo, open boat class race. Meet at the take out car park at 6:00 pm on Friday for a quick sign up and saftey meeting. We will be including the put in falls, so if enough people want to race from starting below the falls we will have 2 classes of racers. Otherwise the same rules apply as for the Callaghan Race. The course will finish at the gauge at the take out.
