Mike, if you're talking about the class V stretch there were no wood portages a couple days ago, but you do get close to wood in some of the drops.

I was up in the area a few weekends ago, it looked like you could hike out the trail at the bottom of the canyon, but I am going to double check with the nps before heading up there. Thanks for the beta

The trail is open as far as I could tell. 2 rangers drove past out of the Whiskey Bend trailhead as I was setting down my boat at the top of the trail. They waved as they passed. People were also wandering around on the cobble bars when we showed up.
