Hi everyone, please excuse the double trip post here, but I hadn't gotten any traction in the trips log yet. A group of us from Portland are heading up to the OP from 11/21-11/23 to do a bunch of paddling. We're staying in the Lake Cushman area, and are primarily targeting the Humptulips, Dosewallips and Duckabush drainages. Class 3-4 stuff mainly, but a couple of us would step it up on a shorter run.
We'd love to have some company and local knowledge while we're out there.Give me a call or text if you'd like to make arrangements to meet up.

Thanks for posting this trip. Thanksgiving on the OP is a fantastic idea. However, most people probably don't want to commit to go to the OP until it's clear there is gonna be water. I am planning to be on the OP that weekend, but only if it rains enough....

Hey Nate, I live in Port Orchard to feel free to send me any questions you have about the Dosewallips and other East-range OP runs.
If you can get one of the old Korb books, though outdated, it has the best beta for runs on the OP.

It's kind of rare for Seattlites to venture into the OP, there is just too much stuff that has easier access or just a better flow range. Many a trip to the OP ends in you paddling something you hadn't planned on paddling.

Good luck, get sick!
If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.

As I posted on the other thread, I'm hopeful for a weekend at Matheny, depends on flows. Matheny is a ways from Cushman tho. I live in Olympia and paddle on the Peninsula a lot. I'm always game for a Humptulips run or whatever. Let's watch the flows and hope for some storms!

I generally think of the dose and the duck as springtime runs, but they go with rain also. The west Olympic is the place to be in the rain.

Nate - Assuming water, I'm open for boating those areas and happy to show you around. The front slope (east side) Olympic runs aren't classics but well worth doing with lots of variety in the range you're looking for.

I was up at the Dosewallips on Saturday doing laps on the Maze section and sat in on orchestra & children's play between laps. Just a bunch of artsy families enjoying a beautiful place, it was a great show after hiking and safety!

Oops, I just realized I had the dates wrong for this trip. Got the Thanksgiving part right, but those dates are the 28th through 30th.

So we got the storms we need!   Who is heading to the Olympic, when and where? I can't wait for a juicy Matheny run! I would like to boat Wed through Sunday. Camping at Matheny is always good times with lots of options.
