I think you are referring to the diurnal. During the warmer parts of the day, more snow (or glacier) melts and makes its way down to the gauge. As it cools off or in the middle of the night, less snow (or glacier) is melting and the tap seems to "turn off." This repeats itself every day when the weather is consistently the same and without rain.

Seems reasonable to me as the other gauges up north (cascade, thunder, bacon) all did the same thing. North end is getting the brunt of it, which is in line with predictions from cliff mass.

According to locals the NF Nooksack is running much higher than the gauge states. It rained hard up there starting early Saturday morning and was still raining when I left Sunday afternoon. Many of the side creeks were flooded and the NF Nooksack was BROWN!
