Topic: Saturday Sky trip Posted: 18 Oct 2005 at 1:23pm |
Going to run the Sky this Saturday. The group is already at 2 kayakers and a raft (an oarframe with 1 passenger). If the level is too high (I'm not yet sure what constitutes too high for me) I will likely shift the trip to the Middle Middle. Who is in?

Hi Tom, this is Eric from S Fork snoqualmie trip. Ive not run the upper part of the skykomish nor the MM. Can you or anyone else recommend a good level for either river for a newer class III boater?

It's at a great level right now, 3000cfs, for a fairly straightforward run, lower levels are less pushy but more technical. I might run on Sat., but will have wait and see till Friday.

We are meeting at 10am at the RR takeout.
Eric- The Sky is definitely better below 3000cfs for new class III paddlers, but you will still want to portage Boulder Drop. The Middle Middle below 2000 is probably a good level but if you don't feel strong you might want to portage House Rock (there is a trail on river right, despite what you might hear). House Rock isn't a particularly hard rapid, but it is reasonably long and does have a minor wood hazard.
Hope to see you on the river,
Tom

If Dave will run Carpool with me I will do it on Sat too. I will join
up officially a little later today when I am sure I have this sat
cleared for paddling.

well it may not have seemed like it, but i had a lot of fun on the Middle Middle Sno yesterday with 'yall, despite my Supernaturally leaking sprayskirt. I definitely lived up to my username. Some VARMIT must have CHEWED on it, as evidenced by the TWO LARGE GAPING HOLES in the back of the skirt-- no that patch of moss did not really help to plug the hole.
Anyway, I may make it to the Sky on Saturday. My Skirt needs to dry out so I can patch it.
Later!

Dude, I have an overflow and a skirt that I'm more than willing to loan you for the day if you would like. I'll bring it along no problem. Its a 10ft boat very forgiving and really playfull for a full sized boat. Let me know on this post! See ya Sat.

Or let me know and I can bring a T4 and a skirt too. Either or, of
course I feel it important to declare Out loud 3 times fast the
following:
I can't be held liable for any crazy #$%@ you do in it!
I can't be held liable for any crazy #$%@ you do in it!
I can't be held liable for any crazy #$%@ you do in it!
There that should keep me legally safe right? Maybe I should call the ACA.
See ya out there ... lol

Hello Guys - my name is Don, it's kind of late notice but I would like to join your trip on Saturday. I'm a solid class IV boater who has done the Sky many times. I saw that you're meeting at the RR bridge at 10am.
Let me know if the late relpy is a problem or if your group is set and you don't want to add more folks at this time. It's cool, I will play at split rock instead.
If it's all good, then I'll see you in the morning. I have a white honda civic wagon, and with an orange EZ on top.
I will check the message board a little later in the evening. -dv

Don,
My friend... this board is all about boating... if you are there when
we are there you are boating with us. Glad to have you aboard, so to
speak.
See you there at 10:00
