So you know the saying ... how location is everything.

Well I have driven by this spot so many times it makes me sick, but check this out.

This is a picture I took from 405 today looking east down to the Cedar River.

That is a little wave that can be surfed at certain flows, but it could be a sweet spot with a little elbow grease.... Anyone want to head down there at midnight and make a playspot when no one is looking???

yeah I'd be down with such clandestined activity, so long as we purge the forum databanks later to protect our anonimity-- good practice for Lagrand, too. (I didn't say that)

Oh James! I know that spot! As far as the La Grand, You may need someone like me to get you to the putin (because I know how to get there!) (remember solid class V for two miles) And I wont run it, but will give support as much as possible. Very wild as far as flow goes, unless pre planned releases. Also don't forget no way out till the end, 450ft shear cliff walls on both sides.

Ok so when should we plan on heading down there and doing this?

I was actually thinking of just heading down there on a sunny day and acting like we are a bunch of fools just throwing rocks in the river. Little would anyone know that the sheer number of rocks we throw in the river would create a dynamic play hole..... MUUU ahhahahah

But honestly I know that just throwing rocks in the river will not create the playhole we are looking for. So maybe we should think about bringing in a single really big rock, or we could create one with a slap of cement???

Lets have some ideas folks, how are we going to make this thing?

You would have to back a big truck down there and it might be a little conspicuous. Plus we need to find a big rock somewhere?

Ive done a little river construction in my day and it is hard long work.  I think with the volume you are working with here you would need some big rocks and a few at that.  Hopefully the river is somewhat shallow so you dont have to fill in too much.  Not much of an eddy behind it is there.  Might need a rope to use to get back to the wave...I would be in for creating a new feature.  I am free saturday after 1.  Uncle B *better use code names*

This sounds great! But I think the best and quickest and funnest way to accomplish this is to have one of YOU volunteer to drive one of your vehicles off the bridge! that's bound to create a feature! maybe a fire too-- heh heh! fire! heh heh!

ok so i went over there about 3 this afternoon and looked at the site.  looks like we need to create more of a defined V shape with some of the rocks to focus the water to create more of a pillow.  maybe the concrete plant could donate some garbage cement slabs...i wonder how the redmond rec center would feel about us driving a truck onto their lawn...hmmm.....

How about a well placed shaped charge on the cement wall? kill two birds with one stone and create eddie service at the same time.

1. There is already eddy service there which is created by that Cement Wall. At all flows you can easily paddle back up next to the wall.

2. I was there yesterday picking up garbage on my Dirt Bike, Uncle B maybe you saw my tire tracks in the Sand :), My thoughts were exactly the same as yours. We need to renforce the V shape by bringing more water to that little pool area and creating a bigger block that forms up the main pillow of the wave.

So when do we get busy on this little guy?

Just so you all know I have been calling this little spot 24/7 wave for quite a while. At around 300 cfs it is actually quite surfable, front and back. way to shallow for ends though and that is what I want to change. 24/7 wave because there are lights right above it which allow for 1 am paddling which I have done also :)

Yea that is Stoneway Gravel & Concrete Company. They are in no shortage of Big Rocks. That is for sure. I wonder what a big rock goes for these days?

They even have things that move big rocks there. It couldn't hurt to ask what a big rock goes for. I bet that someone there could tell you.

Ok, just kidding again about the explosives, you know how they scare me anyway. The question is, how do we get the big rock into position? The city of Renton, consisting of overweight politicians that do not kayak or care about kayaking, would probably not be very cooperative. What we need is a Philanthropic Program millionaire to help us with a helecopter lift, maybe Bill Gates has a soft spot for kayakers?

I would love to help..... The idea that's been missing though, is look, instead of clandestine, You get big flyers from city of Renton, A truck with a Renton sticker on the side of it (it's in Renton, yeah?) Just go out there and yell "Get 'er done" Real loud from 9-5 on a work day.......

James,

Go to the rock people, tell them that it would rock if you could get a big
rock, because their rocks rock our world. Then casually ask if they could
deliver the rock down the street... Any female paddlers on the site? A little
flirting couldn't hurt... maybe you should just bring the 4 daves.... This
would be so awesome!

How to make a play park....or at least some things to think about.  If we were serious about a real place to play with consistant waves and features, its going to take a touch more than throwing rocks into the river at night.  enjoy....B

Here's a long shot, we all run for political positions in Renton then when we secure our places in the system we can do whatever we want! We can rule the world and make kayaking a way of life.
