Come out and paddle with EJ on Sunday! Anytime between 9am-2pm at the Powerhouse below Snoqualmie Falls. Free Jackson boat demos, free shuttles. You might just find yourself sharing an eddy with EJ.

looks like i have to go to this!
Your possessions should set you free like a boat or a pair of hiking boots. If you work for your possessions and they don't set you free, what are you working for?

Saw EJ at the grocery store last night so he's in town.  Have fun you all.  I have to be on the penninsula this weekend so no paddling for me.

I missed the paddle (SRT training), but the BBQ and after-show was really great. I spoke with EJ and his wife, Christine. The are true friends of the river and the nicest people you could meet. EJ is a great business man and all, but is as much a crowd promoter as he is a self promoter. He just wants people to succeed and paddling the the avenue he's chosen to give back. Great event. Paddle with EJ if you get the chance! He's coming to P-town today.

I had no idea about the event. My girlfriend wanted to go. I was
surprised to see the Jackson Rig there. I brought out an old
slalom boat of mine from a bygone era. I pulled it out of my
friend's bushes. When I got to the river, I smelled something
funky. THERE WAS A DEAD RAT IN MY BOAT!!!! Luckily That
little HARD CORE shredding kid that is Eric's son offered to let
me take out his dad's Ricochete. It is trully a sweet modern
Slalom design: The stern rockers up a bit, and the nose is
surprisingly blunt, which makes surfing really awesome in such
a fast boat. Pluss you can paddle upstream in the middle of the
rapid with about 3 easy strokes, and get on the wave upstream
of the one you just surfed.
Highly recommended.

A quick "trip report":

Powerhouse was cranking out at 4400 or so, which actually made it pretty fun (I had worried it would wash out). EJ and family pulled up in the RV, stacked with racks of boats on the top and pulling a Jackson Kayak mini cooper behind.

EJ popped out of the RV and was master of ceremonies from the word GO. I was never completely sold on Jackson outfitting until he was there to explain it in person. Now I would consider retrofitting ANY boat with his outfitting system. Totally unbelievable. Like he said, "It's either the worst outfitting on the planet, or the best, it just depends on if you are using it right."

We had around 40 local boaters show up, but the cool thing was that at least half of them were kids. We did two runs, with boaters of all skill levels eddy hopping and surfing down the river. Emily and Dane found the holes and threw down with style. They cartwheeled their way through every rapid, and all these other kids are out there going "wow! I could do that!" Awesome.

EJ helped out some brand new boaters, giving them rolling and bracing tips. Imagine your first river trip is with Eric Jackson, and he's helping you . Cool.

Anyway, it was a super fun day. Back at the shop we BBQ'd and boated a little more. Emily showed a video about  kayaking in Uganda and some amazing work she and some friends are into there, distributing mosquito nets to villages and rebuilding schools. Great footage of kayaking the White Nile too.

Thanks to everyone who showed up. John was out there representing in the slalom boat. He even wedged himself into a Fun 1 1/2, to EJ's amazement. Even Dane was impressed.

Cheers,

Gabe
