I've been waiting for one to show up in the FSBO section for a while and no-one is posting them.  I figure they are either soo good noone wants to get rid of them, or they just didn't sell very well here in the PNW.  Any opinions?

Has anyone tried one? The guys down at Idaho River Sports were all about it.  Bret, do you know what size the one at SRK is?

I like the 420, it is similar to my ZG-54, but does everything about 5 to 10% better in my opinion; but I am an old man   that can only do a few easier playboat moves , 360's, sidesurfs, squirts, half a cartwell and no retentive or aerial moves. This may sound contradictory, but the 420 seems to be more comfortable, forgiving and yet preforms a bit better. It definitely cuts and surfs better and is a bit faster than the ZG-54. If you are a serious playboater you may want a looser less stable boat.

Thanks ChrisW, that sounds like what the guys at Idaho River Sports told me.  I guess I just needed to hear it from someone who isn't a salesman.  I would really like to get one.  I'm not really a serious playboater, I am just a larger than normal kayaker who has outgrown my last playboat.

yo justin
i demoed a 420 a few times and liked it.  loose and playful yet stable.  i think that josh f (shrek) has one that he was trying to unload.  he may still have it.  maybe that lazy ass wipe will read this and speak up.....anyways, it is a good boat that would probably fit you pretty well.

I really liked the 420. Before the Specialist came out, I figured that if I didn't have a Jackson, I'd get one of those. Good boat.

The Specialistist is really loose in comparison to the 420, most of the 47 gallons of volume is in the front.  Think, tricky, loopey wave / hole boat, squirley loose. But stable fun. It cartwheels with a thought, but bowstalls tough, because of the volume distribution.
Also the length, if your over a 34-36" inseam, you aint getting in. Not yet anyway, the new 6'0" will be out soon.
Its a big air dream boat!
Sure?

James, I checked out that 420, it's a small gosh darnit.  I need a playboat that will fit a big guy like me.  I hate being big!

Justin...

This is a little off topic... I have a line on a Crazy 88 6.3 (the large one).  If that's on your list of boats to check out drop me a pm and I'll send along the contact info.  The boat isn't formally for sale on FSBO, but I know the owner would like to sell.

The astro 58 is the best big guy boat I have paddled. It may be from a biased point of view but i have tried almost all of the big guy boats out there and it is the best one I have paddled.
