 Topic: skookumchuck 21/22 Nov Posted: 09 Nov 2008 at 10:49pm |
At Friday 21 and Saturday 22 the skook looks good the current strength is good and the peak is around noon giving us all the time to play during daylight. I'd be very interested in going. I have never been to the Skook and would really like to see and play it. 2008-11-21 11:31 PST 12.72 knots Max Flood 2008-11-21 16:24 PST Sunset 2008-11-22 07:39 PST Sunrise 2008-11-22 12:08 PST 11.32 knots Max Flood 2008-11-22 13:54 PST Moonset To you Skook-Experts out there: is this a good time to go? Temperature, current ok ? Anybody interested in carpooling ? -Oliver

It will be fun but it will be small mellow skook, not the beast you see in videos. That said, I'm sure it will still be sweet to get some non-crowded skookin in!

Oliver you will have a blast...
For the first time there is nothing wrong with a sub 13k flow but honestly the wave does not start getting dynamic, ie big pile and steep face until 12 - 13k ....

well, one could go one day earlier:
2008-11-20 10:49 PST 13.84 knots Max Flood
makes it a Thursday and Friday trip.
i just had this statement to go on for the selection of days: >>10-14kt, but is best when the current is around 11-12 knots<< http://www.paddleguides.com/rivers/bc/skook/skook.html

I think that 10-12 is too low. You only get that peak for an hour tops, so the best part of the surf is too short. You should go a day earlier for the 13.8. That's a rockin level, and you have a really good wave for at least 3 hours.

the high twelve day will be alright, but you should definitely go for the 13.8. In my opinion that is one of the best levels, and i have seen it from 11 to 15.

I agree, you'd want to go sometime Wed. to surf both Thur. and Fri. It may by worth hanging around Sat. just to see the difference, but it would be anti-climatic.
If you did this, I may be in.

I know plenty of skookers that love the wave at various levels. You will have a blast and the more time the better. Logistics make that place best when taken chunks at a time.
Buy your IPA's before you take the ferry though because there is almost zero quality beer on the coast... maybe in all of BC eheheh just kidding I don't want to ruination your thread

Hi Larry,
yes the plan would be to leave on Wed. In that case I would like to be back on Saturday evening for a social event.
James, even though you are a two hearted hop devil, you cannot stone this immortal thread to oblivion. Of course, I will be extensively IPAed before I even leave Seattle.

no matter how you cut it, skook will be the best wave going in the northwest even at 11.5. you just may not get your bread and butter on.

Funny story... so my friend tried to finance his last paddling trip to BC by bringing many cases of beer to sell to other boater and Canadians, because its so expensive up there. So, he bought all this beer, and got stopped at the border. They searched his car and detained him for questioning.
In the end he paid a hefty fine, lost all his beer and is banned from Canada for a year. Bottom line, bring a six pack or two, but don't become a Canadian Beer runner...
