Alright local experts. I know there's always water in the Sky, but would like to run something smaller and steeper.

It's raining outside. What's likely to come in for the weekend?

Robe may bump up into the 5.2' range according to the forecasts (which can be a moving target).

Ernie's may come in, too. Both can definitely be said to be steeper, but Robe isn't really "smaller".

That's gonna be about it for "local" options, if you're looking for more action than the Sky.
It's true that a lot of the graphs are showing some rise from this rain, but it doesn't look like it'll amount to much. Always hard to tell though.

Canyon Creek (Stilly) may come in. It just needs a little more rain and it will be there.

About 250 on this gage is about as low as you'd want to go. 300-400 is better.

Thanks for the beta, all!

Based on what I've read/heard about Ernie's, I'm not looking to run Ernie's anytime soon

Some laps on CC would be great if it rises, and Dave, I'm intrigued by what you're saying about Robe but that's pretty different than what I've heard about the run in the past.

That is what Dave Morals says, but after just talking to James, I guess Dave has had some epic swims and hikes out of there and boat breaking experiences also. SO, I will probably do the CC a few times before Robe.

I was not trying to suggest that Dave is not a good guide, the guy is a super champ and fully robe ready if I remember my first time was with Dave too. I was trying to convince you that it might be best for you to learn a boof on something over 2 feet tall before bouncing down Robe. It is a super fun run that is a jaunt for many paddlers but the rock and nature should not be under estimated. Acing the 2 boofs on the middle middle doesn't mean you should launch off on a portage mission down Robe. Like I said on the phone before you kept laughing at me... Run canyon creek a few times and get your creekin game up then check out Robe, it's not going anywhere.

I'd say that the Green Truss should be a pre-requisite for Robe. That's not to say that a single run down the Truss will get your chops up, but if you were to knock off a bunch of runs on it, it would go a long ways to preparing you for Robe.

Another run to dial in before Robe is Icicle at a healthy flow (you can make a fairly stress free class IV run down Upper Ici at low flows, but I would suggest pumping up the volume to approximate the chaotic nature of the currents found in Robe.

IMO, CC Stilly is not an adequate run to prepare oneself for Robe. It's too short and the rapids, while they are rated IV, really don't approximate what you'll encounter in Robe.

Robe is a powerful run not to be underestimated. Then again, if you were to hike in on the trail, and if T1, T2 and Last Sunshine looked good to you, then you should be good to go on the whole run. A confident and assertive boof is a must for this run!

There's talk of the Tumwater in my can and string as well. I missed the Robe train today so I just hung out an squirted two tubes of Aquaseal on my poor battle worn bootays. Should nurse them along for a few dozen more trips, I recon.

watched some spandex clad women get their Olympics on

Did some chores 'round the house...

I also published a TR from Trip #44 of 2006, one of the eventful trips in my river log that illustrates a nifty rescue and a few things that commonly occur on the river .

If all paths lead to Tumwater tommorrow, maybe we'll see ya out there among the olive branches...

Momentum of folks I spoke to is towards EF Lewis. Got a total of 4 in right now, so I am following the path of least resistance.

I was leaning toward Tummy, with heavy doubts Robe would retain water. Sunday Morning, however it still had 5.3' +. So Nick, Ian and I rallied.
Awesome Sunny Goodness!

Lots of hikers on the trail as we stormed through T1 & 2
Last Sunshine was a caramel golden in the sunshine- Blissful Boofs for all of us

Saw the B-ham contingent, which is always fun. They put on behind us and caught us at Garbage.

The only bummer was that James couldn't make it. We tried to run Robe on saturday but our plans fell through . But to pre-empt any negative remarks about his attendence on the water- I'll only say this: He has been using his time wisely, and his efforts will bear fruit. And not just for himself.
