Thinking of hitting china gorge at low flow saturday.   Any recent beta?    Wood?   Words of advice of scouting / portaging options at s turns?

Would really appreciate help here as the 3 of us interested have not run this before.

see the china gorge river page for a recent river alert with wood beta....

access permitting, i would advise putting in where you can see the wood in the river near the houses, as upstream of there will be really boney. alternatively, you can put in at the Waptus confluence to do the "play run", which includes China Falls but not S-turn.
sitting all alone on a mountain by a river that has no end

The Canyon above S-Turn has a few pieces of wood in different places so be careful, one is just as your getting into the canyon, around a bend and sunk down in little rapid, at low flows it will still be a portage. S-Turn has wood in the lower drop will still be a portage. I would do as chip says and either put in well below in the davis creek zone there is a easy parking area at the Davis creek trail head and a little foot bridge, then you just have waptus hole, china falls and the wood in the pinch which will probably be boatable in kayaks or IKs but not rafts or cats.
