So stoked for this weekends Chelan Gorge releases! The dam will release water around 10am, we should be paddling by 11am after the canyon fills up.

There is parking/camping at the put in, and spectators who aren't paddling are encouraged to watch the action from the canyon road above the gorge. You can watch most of the run from a single perch above the canyon (Short Run)

For those that have never been to a release, we usually progress down as a big group, this is for safety reasons. You'll understand why once your in the Gorge :)

The PUD says we have 29 people signed up so far! Great turnout!

It appears Lake Chelan may be taken over by kayakers this weekend!

so...
I only went the first weekend it was opened for business- hardly anyone showed up, and they almost weren't going to open it on sunday due to few participants.

since then yall have made quite the gala of it, from the looks of things.

here's my question/only concern:

You guys been setting up a 'Traffic Cop" at Entrance Exam?
I barely got a passing grade when I paddled through there, but I didn't have 20 other blokes breathing down my neck, either- just Brad X, who was civilized enough to let me eddy out before firing it up. My concern is that i don't want to be getting worked at the bottom of Entrance Exam and get drilled by some trigger happy fool who can't at least wait for me to swim and clear the drop before bludgeoning me with the bow of his plastic battering ram.

But that's just me.

seems like with 29+ paddlers such protocols would be great above the Double Slide, and above the Boulder Sieve as well. just my 2 cents and you guys who've been going annually probably have had that angle covered just wanted to bring it up.

Jp! Glad your coming out again!

Even though there are a lot of paddlers signed up, some are only signed up for one day per the PUD. So we won't see the max number each day.

As to traffic control, lets stage lots of safety as usual, and with good communication it should flow nicely.

Lots have been learned through previous years mistakes, and I'm confident we can manage our way through the chaos of Chelan, this will be our 5th year in a row now!

Well.

Chelan has come and gone. My hangover is close to finished. My knees are still shaking and my back still hurts from just watching the boaters that went into Beast Mode and fired up Pinnacle.

Thanks to everyone that came out for the weekend, especially the out-of-towner's. Shoutout to the Hood River and Idaho/Montana peeps.

Good times were had. You're all BEATERS!
