 Boaters...  there has been a tragic loss in the paddling community.  Allen Satcher of Portland lost his life on Cherry Creek over the weekend.  He was a fun and energetic person who alway had a smile.

bummer, sh*t like this sucks. I'm always left wondering by newspaper reports though. a whirlpool?

I was wondering about "whirlpool" too, but after seeing pictures of the feature it seems like a reasonable description.
