Given the fact that there is going to be a bounteous amount of paddlers on Tumwater this weekend, I want to let you all know about a couple pieces of wood that are sort of in play.

The first is at the top of the third amigo, balancing on the center left rock that is sometimes boofed off of. The boof does not go right now! The wood protrudes about 6 feet right of the rock into the current. Either go hard right or hard left at the top. It wouldn't take much to remove this log, it just hasn't been done yet. The rest of the third amigo is free of wood.

The second piece of wood that is worth noting is in the middle of Chaos. Past the entire top section, which I'm considering to be the entrance boof through the horse shoe hole, there is a splintery log spanning the middle of the river between two rocks that generally form a deep spout about 50 meters down from the horse shoe hole. This log is easily avoided by taking the standard right line through the middle of the rapid, or by going hard left. Someone swam through his section today and flushed right under the log and was fine but we all know that any encounter with wood is not ideal. This log is hard to see from river level so just stay to the edges after the meat of the drop.

That is all for now. Stoked to see everyone out here this weekend!

Cheers,

T-Pot

Nate knocked loose the log in the third amigo tonight. Saw a 6" diameter log chasing him through.

I believe I knocked that log at the top of the third amigo loose. Didn't see it on my second lap today.

Edit: Hah beaten by 1 minute.

There was also another piece of wood in Chaos - river left about 10 yards below the boof rock. It's in that no man's land on the left that I haven't seen anyone run. As long as you are running some variation of the boof rock, this log is not in play.

This is the time of the year that many tourists stop at the pull outs and think it's AWESOME to push logs off the shore and into the current. Especially, right above the 3rd Amigo... Stay safe!!!

Decent sized log on the left side of the 2nd amigo near the bottom. Visible from the road, but if you were over there it would be unpleasant to run into. Very large, very obvious log at the entrance of the 3rd amigo.

As of 12:00 pm on Monday, July 6. The wood situation in Tumwater Canyon is as follows:

2nd Amigo: Long branch protruding from the left bank in the middle of the rapid. Easily avoidable with any normal center or right line.

3rd Amigo: Large log spanning 90% of the entrance to the rapid. Can be bumped over or avoided on the right bank. Then start moving left because there is another massive log caught up in the picket fence in the middle of the rapid that usually consists of 3 water humps. This wood can be avoided easiest on the left bank.

Chaos: The log that has been spanning the rocks in the middle of the rapid has moved down stream. It is now lodged diagonally in the wave train before the right turn well before the Red Bridge. It is easily visible and is avoidable on the left or right side. Just keep your eyes peeled.

At this time, The Wall, POW, and Exit are free of wood.

Happy shredding!
