Idaho has stepped up its border inspections for aquatic invasive species. You gotta stop at the border checkpoint station for the officials to look at (and in) your kayak and raft, and maybe get a free hot wash.

I blew by the inspection station as we entered from Nevada returning from the GC. The po po pulled us over and sent us 20 miles back.

A boater friend from ID tells me there will be a new boat inspection station on Lolo Pass and one in Lewiston, ID too.

I don't know what they are doing about Aquatic Invasive Species stickers. In Idaho, only inflatable kayaks less than 10' are exempt. The stickers are $7 online.

what does the sticker tell them?  Or is it a tax?

Yeah, I got stopped by a local squad car on my way back from the Owyhee last year.  I was driving North from Jordan Valley on Highway 95 and the road dipped into Idaho.  I had no intention of paddling in Idaho... was just passing through for an hour or so, but an invasive species permit is required even for that, said the man with the flashing lights on his car.

I was fortunate because there was a gas station a block away that sold the permits and an inspection station less than a 1/4 mile back, so it was no big deal.

The guy at the inspection station did, indeed, take a good look at my boat.  Since I paddle a Katana 10.4 on multidays, he spent the most time inspecting the skeg and skeg box, which is one place that easily picks up mud & invasive species at a take out.  Mine was clean, fortunately.

This year, I bought my Idaho permit online back in January.  Oregon also has the same thing, but I'm not sure they are policing as heavily as Idaho.  Anybody been stopped driving into OR from WA?  I'm heading down to do the Illinois next week.
