United still allows kayaks on the plane.
I flew to Denver with a playboat in April. When I called they quoted me $50, when we got to the check in they tried to ring me up for $200. I threw a fit and the $50 stuck. ------------- Sure? |

I flew to Colorado last month with my kayak on Alaska Airlines. I did not wrap it or anything. Just walked in, paid the $50 and they took it off my hands... easy

leif you plane need some zen in your life, man. maybe you can find some by hopping a plain to Tibet to study shao lin. It will probably improve your kayaking, too....

Leif,
I went to Home Depot and bought a canvas drop cloth for 20 bucks and cut it to fit my Burn. Basically, just a simple rectangle overlapping like a sleeping bag. Next I went to the dry cleaner and asked them to sew the bottom and one side but not the top. That was 20 bucks.The boat slides in and I use a bit of cord to close it. This enables all my stuff to stay in the bag if it comes out of the boat, including loose hardware, throw bag and breakdown paddle. Deflate your airbags. The cord makes it easy for the TSA guys (Take your Shoes off Agency) to easily inspect. Choose your airline but read their baggage restrictions carefully. Alaska is great at making it plain as day and you get to check in at customer service. Dragging the bags around the airport got us a bit of attention from the TSA.
