  Putin Details

We used the bridge on Cougar Mountain Trail SE (after it crosses with Lawrence Lake Road SE) for the put in. There was a place to park up the road at the corner of Lawrence Lake Road and Cougar Mountain Trail, at an abandoned building with a parking lot.

  Takeout Details

We used the take out next to Turner Road SE. It was just to the left of Turner road under the bridge for 507. There was room to park. Don't go over to Turner road though, it's all residential and they have no trespassing signs everwhere.

  Other Issues

Watch out for cow crossing in the first couple of miles of the run! They seemed like they were a bit perturbed at a couple of kayaks going down their section of the river. We made a lot of noise and splashing to keep them unsure about us and immediately after we passed them, they crossed the river. It wouldn't have been fun to have them try to cross at the same time though!

   Run Description

The first maybe half of the run was pretty calm with a lot of floating (Class I, I'd say) but then toward the middle/end we got more continuous rapids that were pretty technical, but forgiving because of the low cfs. There are probably at least 5 or 6 times when the river forms two channels and you can't see which one would be best without getting out to scout. Most of those were channels that could both have been run, but a couple were not. There were a lot of logs and it was pretty clear that the water does get a lot higher from all the debris piled up against trees and logs. Watch out for sweepers and strainers. This river is definitely winding through the woods and has a lot of trees down. At one point near the end we had to lie flat on our backs in our IK's and steer ourselves with our hands through some branches under a tree that had fallen. Fun and worth a laugh. At low water there are a lot of little rocks to get stuck on. We found a couple boulder gardens too, that look like they'll be fun at higher water.

Overall, it definitely turned into a Class II. I would rate it that way because of it's semi remote location, small technical rapids, hazards (mostly strainers and sweepers), and enough obstacles to force some decision making. Keep in mind that this was at just barely runable cfs levels. I'll be excited to update this with more after I've run it higher.
