  Other Issues

No gauge is operating on the Kalama. The Toutle gauge usually gives a good indication during the rainy season.

  Fun Facts

If the gate is closed to the upper run, this is always available as a backup.

   Run Description [Season: Rain Oct-May]

This is a nice enough run, but not a lot of whitewater. Most of the rapids are class 2. The first real class 3 is "what's that falls", a straightforward 2-3 foot ledge. Below here is a beautiful gorge where wood sometimes collects. The gorge leads to Leader rapids (class 4). It's a boulder garden that is usually run left at lower levels, at higher levels you can bang down the rocks on the right.

More easier rapids follow the next couple miles and then the last few miles of the run are pretty flat. You may want to find an alternate take out to cut out some flat water, but be careful not to trespass. There's alot of homes and private property here.

Makes a nice weekend combo trip with the nearby Toutle River.
