  Other Issues

Continuous class III+ IV- whitewater with some larger class IV drops sprinkled in the run. One mandatory portage called "Tombstone" a sketchy waterfall double, portage on right.

At 1800 +/- cfs it was a perfectly padded medium.

  Fun Facts

If you drive all the way down to the Lewis from Seattle it would be worth putting in here, there is lots of quality rapids and some really fun moves and makes the day worth the drive.

Because of the portage it would be a good intro to creeking run, the portage is not technical and will give non creekers a taste of what sort of off river skills are needed for getting into proper class IV-V creeking.

   Run Description [Season: rainy]

Really continuous drops right off the bat, no real warm up.

As you start to approach the "Tombstone" portage there will be several larger drops stacked on top of each other, directly above tombstone there is a pinch that opens to a pool where you can get out and take a look at your options. Either portage high or try and stay at river level. The river level portage looked good except for a few spots that seemed a bit dicey. Ideally get back to river level between the two tiers.

Below "Tombstone" the river flattens out a bit and is much less continuous. There are still 3 or four bigger drops. The one you really need to look out for is near the end of the run and has a hole that takes up 3/4th of the right side of the river, there is a sneak on the left, make sure you stay pretty far left because there is a slide that will put you right into the hole otherwise.

Below this is headwall rapid with a big curler in it that is really fun.

Shortly after the headwall drop is the entrance to sunset falls. Scout from the right.

Take out here or continue down to the gorge below.
