Putin DetailsContinue up FR 19. In a few miles you can scout Fishladder Falls. The put-in is a few more miles up FR 19 at the bridge over the river. |
Takeout DetailsFrom Highway 410, just east of the bridge over the Little Naches turn onto FR 19. Then turn into the Little Naches Campground. If you camp here you can takeout right at your camp. Nice. Otherwise if all the sites are taken you may be able to take out just downstream at the 410 bridge over the Little Naches or downstream a way on the Naches at a few access spots, including Sawmill Flat. |

LITTLE NACHES
Make sure Chinook Pass is open before going and that there aren't any road closure issues related to the landslide downstream on the Naches. |
Run Description [Season: Snowmelt]This run is in a beautiful valley, but is a bit of a mixed bag. Experienced boaters may get bored as there is alot of class 2 water on this run, but beginners will likely be overwhelmed by the harder whitewater sections. Still it's something different to do if you're in the area running the American or Naches, etc.
Fishladder falls (IV+), which can be scouted on the drive up and is easily portaged, is the most stout drop by far on this run. At medium levels it drops into some beefy holes, and was clogged with wood as of 6/2008.
The rest of the run alternates between swift flowing sections though wide parts in the valley where wood can be an issue and some nice class 2-3 rapids. The trip highlight is a section about midway in the run where the river canyons up and there is a string of nice 3+ steep boulder gardens that probably push class 4 when the water is at the upper end. When you get to this section it's worth getting out for a peek around corners, as wood could easily collect on the boulders here.
