   Run Description [Season: Winter]

--- Submitted by Fiddleyak 1/24/2010 ---
Looking for a long, hard day of kayaking located only one hour from downtown Seattle? Then go check out South Prairie Creek. It contains a number of excellent, challenging drops scattered among innumerable log jams and junky rapids. It contains enough reward to be worthwhile, if only just to check out. Although scouting was strenuous, all portages were done at river level.

Our flow was 700, and I would not want much less. I'm targeting 1000 as a more filled-in flow, but many of the harder drops would be get more difficult. Higher water would also make catching critical eddies harder, so best to know the run first. Two boats got new cracks, consistent with the warnings in the guidebook. Beware of the far right line on the "waterfall", it pushes you harder into the shelf on the far right side than the scout from river left would indicate.

Directions in Bennett are good.
