Fun FactsGreat for beginning kayakers at lower flows (less than 1500). Lots of fun waves and surf ledges at higher flows (above 3000). |
Run Description [Season: year-round]This run is a small taste of the Upper Klickitat that is tame enough for beginner and intermediate paddlers. The run starts with a few fun Class II rapids right from the start. At low flows the section is pool drop character, but when the flows are up it is fairly continuos with few eddies. The biggest rapids in the section are McDonalds (II+) and Ishy Pishy (III). McDonalds is visible from the road and the rapid comes down toward a right bend with a funky wave that flips a lot of beginning kayakers.
Ishy Pishy is right at the takeout and is hidden by trees. You can takeout above it or below it for a more exciting ride. The run is suitable for beginning kayakers, and has good scenery and wildlife. Easy hitching on the shuttle because it is next to the road. Paddle safe.
