Putin DetailsFrom Washougal river road, turn onto Skye Road and follow for a few miles.
Turn RIGHT onto 412th Ave.
In ~1/2 mile turn RIGHT onto Skamania Mines Road.
In a couple miles, the road crosses over the River.
A short ways past this bridge is the lower put-in. Just look for a small turn out. (Puts you in below the the first 2 of the class 5 falls). To reach the main put-in continue another mile or so and turn onto Forest road 1200 and continue to the bridge over the river. |
Takeout DetailsYou can take out either at the NH Hatchery, or continue down to the main Washougal (and take advantage of some fantastic surf waves just below the confluence) and take out at the bridge over the Washougal at a fishing access spot.
To reach the hatchery: Just east of the Washougal River Road bridge over the NF turn onto NF road and watch for signs leading to the hatchery.
To reach the takeout on the main Washougal: From Washougal River road turn onto Canyon Creek road (near the little store) and after the bridge over the Washougal turn right and follow the road to the fishing access spot. |

Other IssuesWASHOUGAL RIVER AT HATHAWAY PARK GAUGE
Flows recommendations are approximate, being that the gage shows the flow for the main Washougal.
The NF comes from a higher drainage than other sections of the river so in the winter, colder weather will lock up more water in the NF. Also in the spring, especially in years of big snowpack the NF may be running from snowmelt even though the gauge may be showing low levels.
During rainy season around 4000 cfs usually equals a nice medium flow.

Fun FactsCan be linked with Hagen Creek. |
Run DescriptionFun rainy season run with lots of great class 4 drops throughout the run and 3 class 5 falls (one of which is almost always portaged)
The first 2 falls are in the upper 2 miles of the river.
The final falls comes not too long after passing under the Skamania Mines Road bridge. It is preceeded by some class 3 rapids. Be sure to eddy out left here to portage. This falls drops into a nasty undercut pothole.
