Hi-hey Professor Paddle people.

The tentative date for the quasi-annual Robe Race is set for the weekend of April 30th / May 1st .. flows permitting, of course. With 3 weeks until go-time, there's still plenty of time to polish your lines & shave some seconds (minutes?) off your average run time.

Please get in touch with me if you have questions about the race or would like to be involved in the race in any capacity. We can never have enough racers & safety people .. & of course, having a couple volunteers to hike into the finish line for timekeeping duties is a big one.

Please send me an email: toddgillman@gmail dotcom; or post in the comments section on this blog post: http://therangelife.blogspot.com/2011/03/2011-robe-race-announcement.html

Right on Todd, thanks for the headz up.

ALL Right Folks- you heard the man--
if you are entertaining thoughts of racing let Todd know via email or the Range Life link.

If I got his message right that means don't expect him to monitor Porfessor Paddle, too. The man obviously has a lot on his plate.

But, for the sake of Porfessor Paddle's own internal "community stoke" How bout a show of hands here:

Who's thinking of throwing their helmet in the ring?

Me? well not sure- need a partner (Honestly Darren needs a race partner who'll do him justice).
I'm not in such fabulous shape, so I dunno...

Besides, the whole run has changed Robes at least twice since I been in there. I mean, is that not an appropriate name for a run that changes so much? Every flood the S. Frk Stilly discards an old Robe and dons a new one- I've never seen a river bed change so drasticly so frequently...

anyways, if you aren't up for the race, it is understandable. But if you are an avid NW paddler at all, you should check out this event, volunteer for it and support it. It is the best race the PNW has (sorry Canyon Creek, you're a cool race too), and it is one of the more unique races to be found anywhere.

There's my plug. Planning to be there one way or another even if I don't race.

thanks for the bump JP. i will try to check in on PP periodically. i signed up for the email notification thing when i posted this one, so i'll be alerted when/if someone posts a question or whatever. just going to be slammed with work travel right up until the week of the race, so i might be a little slow to respond but won't leave anyone hangin'.

there's some bad wood in T1 now, so we *might* have to start out of a lower eddy. in any case, we'll make a fun day of it, as always .. the emphasis is on efficiency, safety & community. carnage is not a family value of the Robe Race (though it tends to happen anyway).

hope to see some of y'all there.

ummmmm .. let's do this?

yeah, let's.

we are racing for the robes this weekend! stand by for day/time. looking like saturday at the moment. & hoping for medium to juicy flows + sunny skies .. is that asking too much?

robes for the winners & a robe-gnome for last place team .. beer & sammiches for the competitors & volunteers .. any takers?

currently, here are the teams:

* scott waidelich / jonathan ehlinger
* joe howard / mike nash
* louis geltman / andrew mcewan
* darren albright / cody b.
* darcy gaechter / don beveridge
* ben hawthorne / rob mckibbin
* fred norquist / jure poberaj
* brian fletcher / aaron johnson

there's still a bunch of canucks, bellinghamsters & seattleites who are coming but who haven't yet registered their teams. we'll have a good, competitive field of racers again this year.

i could use a couple volunteers for finish line timekeeping & safety .. so all you people who've looked at this thread but haven't commented, please feel free to get involved .. i'll compensate you with peanut butter, nutella & raspberry jam sammiches, & beer. we have fun at this race.

Looks like we're gonna have a sweet level and some sunshine!   This race is like running from a bear, you don't have to be fast, you just have to avoid being last. Haha.

Yo Taud,
I am going to be there as a free agent.  If I can find somebody to race with them I will do that, otherwise, I will help out with safety.

okay y'all .. my right hand man is not available to help me on saturday morning, which throws a wrench in the works. i need you all to weigh in on whether we race either:

(a) later in the day on Saturday
(b) early sunday

flow & weather forecast suggest saturday is the better race day, but we'd be looking at an afternoon start time.

lemme hear some thoughts please .. & try to weigh in over at TRL (http://therangelife.blogspot.com/2011/03/2011-robe-race-announcement.html) so i don't have to keep checking 2 different websites on my phone for the next couple days. thanks!

I would vote for the late start on saturday... im completely fine with starting late, and I would rather the flows be higher than lower. plus that leaves us with time to party saturday night.. and me to do some schoolwork on sunday.

Would someone be so kind to take pictures, and post them? Even though I can't be there, I'd like to see what I can via pictures.

Wish I could be there! Have fun, be safe, and good luck to those competing!! I'm cheering for you all, in a desert on the other side of the world!!

We're going to meet at the takeout in Granite Falls at 1:00pm tomorrow (Saturday). We'll have quick volunteers/competitors meetings .. then it's go time. PLEASE be sensible about using the parking area at the takeout: park so as many vehicles can fit in the space as possible; do not block traffic; don't play frogger with the cars on the highway; keep your recreational substances out of sight; be courteous to the civilians; pick up after yourself.

Same goes for the put-in parking lot. Use the turn-out at the top of the hill for parking.

It's kind of difficult to do this, but let's try to attract as little attention as possible.

Got questions or concerns? Lemme know.
