Has anyone here ever used Rosetta Stone software? I am thinking of getting the Latin America package to learn a little before heading down south. Thoughts Suggestions? Copies for sale? |

I've used Rosetta Stone Spanish I and II. I've got volume III, but haven't used it. By itself, I don't think you'll learn much unless you've got a good language aptitude and/or some prior Spanish / French / Italian language background. It's a good supplement to a regular Spanish class. I also use Pimsleur Spanish which I prefer. If you only use Rosetta Stone and/or Pimsleur, you'll be real limited in what you can say and understand; however, a little is better than nothing. There's no substitute for actual Spanish lessons with a teacher who can motivate you, identify your weaknesses, explain the different usage of words and phrases, and develop your conversational skills. In Seattle, I took private Spanish lessons for 1-hour a week for $25 ph for nearly two years. It was the best money and time spent. You might want to check Craigslist for a private Spanish tutor. |

I am going to check out the KCLS site for sure. I love the library! The lessons are a great idea, but I am was looking at rosetta because it would be nice to use during flights and airport layover time. J ------------- |

Although they're good (and expensive), Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur will put you to sleep if you aren't motivated. If you don't have much time before your trip, I wouldn't bother getting them. Instead, get a good Spanish phrase book, a Franklin Webster Spanish-English electronic dictionary model DBE-1490, and load one of these onto your iPod to know how to properly pronounce words and phrases: iSpeak Spanish Phrases or http://www.cyraknow.com/ - http://www.cyraknow.com/ Before I began taking Spanish lessons, I traveled to Spain and throughout Latin America using nothing but a phrase book and a Franklin Webster Spanish-English electronic dictionary. I had no problem using this method and some body language to communicate and get around. |

They need one for Slovak so I could finally understand what my lady is saying when she starts raving   No seriously though they do work, but you need a bit of aptitude toward languages like Ronin said. better to just show em you know a bit and hope for the best
