So I just picked up a used Necky Gliss and was trying to figure out if I should purchase some foot braces, some sort of foam block brace kit (if that exists, I can't find one online), or just some foam in bulk and carve out my own. I have heard using actual foot braces (which this kayak has the screws for) increases the risk of breaking an ankle? But it also seems like it would provide more boat control ... of course the bow on this is fairly short so that may not be an issue (I am not sure I have more than 6-8 inches from by feet to the bow).
Or, I could just use the Darl Bundren method and pour cement into the hull while I am sitting in it. But we all know what happened to Darl.

Auqa Sports in Redmond sells foam kits and foam blocks so you can make a bulkhead of sorts. Never heard of anyone breaking ankles in a kayak, but I have had some hard hits and have felt the pain a bit down there. Not something I worry about though, I think it is really rare unless you are running 40foot waterfalls or something like that.

It was actually at Aqua Sports that I was told of this breaking ankles issue, and heard of these kits. They said that foot braces are less common now, that later Neckys used these foam blocks, So I am trying to figure which is better.

Maybe with the old foot pegs they used in the days of old, but now with bulkheads, happy feet and foam blocks it is not as big an issue.

I use an old blowup sex doll, partially inflated of course. Reuse reduce recycle.

Do not use foot pegs, bad idea. Use foam or bulkhead is the safest.

Or old blowup sex doll. I don't recommend new unless you're rich.
