Dates for the 2011 La Push Pummel is the weekend of Feb 25th. We will stick with the weekend after Presidents day and hope for weather and conditions we have had for the last 2.
Tides are with the low being in the early afternoon 12-3 on all 3 days at 0.67ft. With the Highest tide in the early am 5-9am on those days at 8.48 on 2/25/10. The 2nd high tide is in the evening 730pm onward at about 6feet. Basically a late morning and afternoon surf looks good so a nice long window for surfing and relaxing. The sunset about 6pm!!! (another bonus in late February).
The resort has some specials going, check them out and reserve early. Here is there website or give them a call. For motel units 1st night then second night is 1/2off. http://www.quileuteoceanside.com/specials/. Or others are buy 2 nights and 3rd is free. some other web specials on the site as well, be sure to mention when booking. Their phone number is:
(360) 374-5267
or Toll Free at:
(800) 487-1267
Camping is through the Lonesome Creek store either tent on the beach or the RV sites. (360) 374-4333 or (360) 374-4338.
I am not sure we will be able to get the clubhouse for Saturday night. Will send an email later but are planning on bonfire on the beach weather permitting for Friday and Saturday so bring wood, we can burn driftwood we find but you know how that can go this time of year (not very burnable).
Feel free to forward to anyone. As always this is a surf gathering, no contest, no fees, no rules. Just have fun and stay safe!!

wow how pretty!
I've never surfed in the ocean before... would this be a good place for a first timer?
would a playboat or a longboat be preferrable? I'm wondering about the longboat because they are so fast.

La Push is so beautiful, it's worth going out for that alone! And always a great bunch of people. As far as the surfing goes you get what the surf gods give you; I have seen everything from completely flat to 20 foot storm surge. The last couple pummels have had great conditions, 5 ft glassy swells. So sometimes the Pummel is great for beginners, sometimes even the experienced quake in their booties. There are some fabulous beach hikes if surf conditions are not to your liking. What do you mean by longboat? I always go for the playboat. Something with sharp edges or fins is the best choice; you'll be able to get long carves and not just slide straight down the wave. If anyone is interested in splitting a room at the resort let me know!

Well I am in!
by longboat, i meant something like an old school pirouette... no edges. but i'll bring my playboat.
so i was wondering if anyone wanted to hit up a nearby river on maybe Sunday? I have no idea what's around there... Should be carpooling with Tricia who is new so in that case we are looking for a good class II run for a total beginner.. so anyone want to show us a class II run? I'm a class III-IV boater and a level 3 ACA instructor... i'll be looking after Tricia but it's always nice to have others that know the run and are willing to keep an eye out/lend a hand... and well people to shuttle with!
and one caveat... there is a chance i won't have my car by this time (i should though!) and in that case i will have to be at home for it's arrival.... boooo!

I am thinking about going this year, but wont know for sure until the 11th. So, I hope I can score a cabin. It all depends on what weekend we are having the James A get together...

LaPush is an amazing place. If you get the chance, head up towards Sol Duc for the Hot Springs too!! You can surf a few days at LaPush, run Sol Duc River, and then head to the Hot Springs for your last night. Ahhh... sounds like a nice mini-vacation!!

Might want to check the forecast before you go if you haven't already reserved a room/cabin. Looks like 1-2 foot surf (aka flat) through the weekend. Though the offshore winds and long period might hold the waves up a bit. Definitely not a pummel this year though.

The campsites are right on the Beach and they allow pets! I believe its $15. a site.
Come on out matt and jp! Me and paddlegirl are camping... the more the merrier! The weather will be awesome, sunny skies and plenty of surf for all you play boaters!

Hmmm, a one foot wave doesn't sound like it would be worth it. At least not 3 days of it.
If its crappy, anyone want to go run some rivers out there? I've never paddled out there

I would like to run something out there too, but I am not familiar with the rivers out there. Plus, I think it will be a low water weekend everywhere this weekend, unless it pours down rain...I am just going up on Friday afternoon, maybe do some hiking in the area, then surf a bit on Saturday, take pictures, more hiking, eat drink and all that stuff, then head home Sunday morning.

I don't think it is going to be warm and sunny, Cliff Mass indicates were looking at an extreme cold front moving in on Thursday. Possible lowland snow but really really cold air. Check it to wreck it. http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/ - http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/

Sunday is not looking so small - breaking Wave Estimate 10ft! http://magicseaweed.com/La-Push-Surf-Report/308/
It is looking pretty darn cold. Still wondering if anyone has a cabin they want to share - floor space is fine!

I'm still undecided. Looks cold! Very small surf friday, and I'm thinking 10' is too big for me on Sunday.

I was going, but the weather is looking bad for driving out there on Friday. A 3 hour drive in the ice doesn't sound like fun. I dont have good tires or chains for ice and snow. I guess they are getting hammered with snow over there right now...

Pummel Report 2011: Another excellent Pummel, lots of great energy and paddling stoke. Weather was the whole smorgasbord from stunningly clear and beautiful but cold day Friday. This year’s Pummel had a great showing of SUP’s which was awesome. The sunset was amazing, enjoyed a great surf session from about 2ish a good group that surfed until Sunset. Olalla Dave was the first and only surf kayaker I saw out that day with some great rides. A group of Sea Kayakers had a treat for a sunset paddle around James Island. Saturday brought a blustery cloudy day; we had a leisurely morning as it was flat until late morning. Greg got a great bonfire going on the beach early and kept going all day. Down towards second beach is where the waves were near the icy cliffs which just added to the effect when the snow flurries came. Great rides had by all despite the work of the wind but the payoff was great!! Hope everyone got to admire Mikes handmade wooden mini simmons a work of art, amazing to see on some of those faces. Sea Kayakers headed from the Marina across the windy bay to second beach then had 4-6ft waves to surf back with one rescue out there. Others got the hiking treat of the Hoh covered in snow with a herd of Elk. There were surf and sea kayakers out until sunset, surfing. The Potluck was great, good fun, awesome people and lots of stories to share. Very fun time.
Saturday night brought quite a storm, big winds which continued on Sunday and LaPush once again looked like it did in the January’s previously. We and others packed up and made the 11 o’clock check out and some of us got a pleasant surprise going the 112 route finding that twin had waves waiting for us. As clean and glassy as they were the rides on Saturday were still the fondest. People thanked us for organizing but really the Pummel ends up being what people bring to it and make of it. We had a great time and thank everyone for coming and making the Pummel so awesome. Looking forward to next year. We are going to keep with the weekend following President’s day.
