The acid is probably fine on the plastic.  It's the lead and other metals in your eyes, nose, mouth and ears when you're getting throttled in the entrance drop of the Rockwood Box that I would steer clear of.

The thing that infuriates me about the situation is that the EPA has been trying to get Superfund money in there for years but the local yokel county gov't wouldn't allow it because it would impact tourism.  Well, so does poisoning the lifeblood of the San Juans...

Bummer for the awesome trout fishery too. I doubt it will ever be the same for a long while.
