Some friends and I have been looking at upper tumwater falls as joke. We have looked at it at different levels throughout the years and medium flows looks the best. My question is has anyone run the falls before? The upper falls looks alright, you'd have to run the left side of the falls, nail a boof and ferry right and after a short slide, ferry hard left and boof into a pinhole sized eddy. The bottom of the 3rd drop looks super gnarly, for such a small drop, its probably the swirliest, nastiest holes Ive seen. Getting someone out would be very hard with the retention wall and the fish ladder.. I don't plan on running it soon, just curious if anyone has.

A friend of mine ran it, he ran the last falls and it was at mega flood when the whole drop if filled in. According to him he "boofed the dog-sh*t" out of it and he got eaten by the hole at the bottom, and was picked up by his buddies at the park below. I'm not certain that he ran all the drops, but at the very least the bottom drop has been sent.

I ran upper and lower Tumwater Falls back in the Spring of 1999 and got the first descent.   I put in above the Brewery and ran the first 15 footer,  paddled over the weir,  ran the fish ladder drop, and then fired off  lower tumwater Falls into Capitol Lake.

I paddled the whole section at flood (after 5 days of heavy rain)   and have pictures that are amazing!   The bottom falls has been run once since,  by Chris Wilson in 03, and is the only other kown descent, other than mine,

lets see the pics.... I've been looking at that bottom drop my entire life and it looks nasty at every level. rebar and sh*t and a huge pothole to land in after you get gored by rusty metal.

Yeah, the lower is definitely the crux of the whole section.

incidently, Kiwi- I was just over at Fish's house- I saw the pics.
As in Photographs. It was highwater chocolate and Fish was wearing a day glow yellow and pink lifejacket!

I'd say that definitely "dates" the descent!

They aren't spectacular because they don't show him in the moment- one photo shows him lining up at the top, but tons of rock obscures his approach. the other shows him happily drifting off "into the sunset" afterward. You can see how high it is though, and theres' some cool photos of him getting ready.

I told him to scan the sh*t and post them- maybe with a big enough clamour form you all he'll do it...

I dont own a scanner, but will try to get them dowloaded and share.   The people that were there also took some pics, it would be nice to track those down and see them as well.
