First off i want to apologize for commiting the probable caridnal sin for mentioning the pilchuck outside the designated thread.

Now..

A friend and I are getting out tomorrow and were thinking about Sauk. Never done it and wondering if anyone else would want to join? or offer beta about what to expect at ~17K. River page says 4-5 @ 15k. Understandable if there's little to offer besides have fun and watch out for keepers.

also i'm keeping an eye on pilchuck gage if that peaks interest. We're going to decide in the morning. Let me know if you want to boat tomorrow.

I haven't run the Sauk at 17K but I've been on it a few times around 12-13K and it's a blast at those levels...at 12/13 it's still mostly class 3+ except a couple places definitely push class 4.  Since you haven't run it its hard to give any direction on what to do where... so yeah. Just expect some big wave trains and there's probably gonna be a few holes you'd be well advised to stay away from.

I have done it at 16k. It was a lot of fun. If it is clean the lines are all pretty much the same. I would call it easy class IV. I have heard tell of a few cat boaters running it when it was approaching 30k. At that level it was described as IV+.

We also are watching the Pilchuck, Sauk, and the Silly Stilly for a 1pm. Trip. Be glad to take you on the Sauk. Last time the Pilchuck was blown out the Sauk was 18k. It was fast and big. Its better when it comes into the 14-15k range
