if you look at the aw gauge readings it would appear everything is working alright. i would be in for robe sat or sun, or both.

would anyone mind if a raft came along. We have rafted robe a few times an the lw and recently ernies so hopefully we would not hold you up but would love to tag along as like to have safety. We also have the ability to carry a lot of beer for everyone on the paddle out.

Just a heads up... Darrin went solo into Robe yesterday (12/16); I thought by now he would've posted up some of the changes, as there are a few.  T1, Landslide, Garbage and so on....

At anyrate the guage is off... he got off run around 6.1 while the online guage reports the level lower -   .3 digits lower maybe?

Nyways, scout it out....

seems like the hydrograph is off, but the data being recorded as the last reading seems to be closer to the real number.

ahh, f--- it dude, lets go boating...

Which hydrograph are you talking about? The NW forecast or the AW page?

What are the changes!!!

If he got off at 6.1 yesterday I would say the gauge is .3 lower when looking at the readings on AW. That would also make the NW river forecast gauge correct which means it is at 5.6 right now.

yeah, I think the best reading is off the NW forecast guage which is probably pretty close to the stick.  Not sure why or how that could be (James?) but does make sense in light Darrin's info...

as far as specifics on changes that should come straight from the horses mouth:  I'd just be sharing stuff I didn't really see, and of course that is just about worthless.

Rob said the changes sounded to be for the 'worse' according to his version from Darrin, and Last Sunshine is one of those spots that is not better... but then it was 6' so who know how it goes at 5'.

One bit of good news is that big wood jam below Sunshine is gone.  Gonna be chilly this weekend, but can't imagine that keeping Robers out of the canyon.  The gnomes will be waiting

The data reported at this website is about .05 to .1 off in relation to the river gauge (river gauge reads higher than web gauge): http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph_to_xml.php?gage=gflw1&output=tabular
USGS is off by .3 (river gauge higher than website data).
Things have shifted around in there a bit. Several rapids are different. I wouldn't say it is better or worse, just different. On a good note, Garbage is much cleaner w/o wood (RR side is good to go), there is a new 6' ledge somewhere above Landslide and no wood to be concerned with. Last Sunshine is much different.
The water was above the trail that goes along T1/T2 and Last sunshine. Crazy.

Darren

Last Sunshine: a lot of the boulders that made the big dam/fence have flushed down stream 20-30 feet. It is now more or less a double drop. There are multiple lines (river right, a few down the center and the standard river left line). There is now a 2nd ledge & hole just below the first (original) drop. The river left kicker is still sort of there; it's shorter, the hole looks worse (more of a pocket) and it pushes you back towards the left wall through a chute. I'm sure it will look different at lower flows. A quick scout is probably a lot simpler than trying to understand my description. It might not be the sweet kicker it used to be, but it is certainly better than the previous version (8-10yrs ago) and it will be fun trying out all the new lines.
My guess is the entire run may not flow as good at say 5.25' now as it did before. We'll probably find that out tomorrow.

Heard that one before. Guys, DO NOT put on unless you actually see the beer. Dude, you still never hooked me up after promising such after shoehorning your way onto my trip while I was trying to squeeze in a much needed race run just before the race.

Then after dutifully trying to rescue your raft at the brink above Catcher's Mit, your sloppy ass NOVICE raft rigging damn near entrapped me and entangled me. (I been a raft guide since the 80's, homeboy I know the ways it ought to be rigged, tried to share them with you even)

What do you want, a Cookie?
No, would be my answer. Cookies don't cut it, and neither do cookie cutter approaches to whitewater.

Beer is customary and You're on my sh*tlist till I recieve mine.
Soory man, now I'm laughin

Your post just opened up a can of jPclassic that has been on the shelf expired too long.

The good news is all of this banter is actually meant all in good fun. Maybe once you get a clue in a few years we'll be able to relate to one another, but till then I don't respect your stunts too much because of your blatent disrespectfull approach. Magizines shots and cameos in the vids don't make you an expert. Skill, judgement, and finesse do. That's just my opinion, but I figure since I let all of my friends know my opinion it would be disingenuous not to let you know it too.

But it's just boat'n dude, so don't take me seriously. Yeah you started at the top and finished at the bottom. You've run some sh*t for sure, I'll grant you that. But there are other river born objects out there that run the sh*t too. Driftwood, for example.

Ah, but here is where I must aplaud you because you have transended Driftwood, to be sure. Lady's and Gents let it be known that this stuntman is No Driftwood. Because, along the way, the journey inevitbly will shape you if you beat the clock and gain more experience before you get unlucky. I saw that video chunk of you running the "Split Falls" on Ernies- Not an easy line to hit in a raft at all. As the curret shoved your boat into that undercut-ish rock on R. Left, you scrambled forward in time to help the raft get through. Worked out nicely, it looks like.

So, damn it, ok -- I'll grant you a teeny tiny amopunt of respect for having completed Ernies, begrudgingly! Just kiddin around dude, congrats!

Gonna come to Dan's defense on this one...
I'm sure some your warning and lessons ring true, but I think the reason you didn't get beer after that trip (I even got some cookies in the mail!) was the characteristic JP-style rant delivered riverside when we were just trying to have a chill trip down the river.

Sell out?  I blame Josh.  I was suppose to be on Robe that day and Josh bailed.  I think he went to cut down a Christmas tree with his girl.  Weak.

And I heard Annie was the look out for the po po.  She's a keeper.

Hans, let's keep this thread on topic.  Who's going to get the first raft descent on the "new" robe?  -b

I don't think that goal is possible around here... considering this thread went from a gauge discussion to trip planning to trash talking, I am going to say were right on par!

Now to keep on track, I cut a christmas tree down this year in Hancock timber land up the N.Fork road and a fish and wildlife guy caught me red handed... He was cool though and said either throw it out or get a ticket. So I threw it out ... Then I asked where I can go to do it legally and he said anywhere around here was legal to harvest down trees but to cut a fresh one you have to drive another 5 miles up the road. When he left I went back out and picked up the tree I cut down, as I walked back up to my van with the tree the guy yells at me and asks me what I was thinking, as if I did not notice he was waiting just down the road. I responded I am picking up a down tree that some yahoo must have not wanted it. He told me he deals with these yahoos all the time and if I took the tree I would get a ticket, so I threw it back. We did this about 2 or 3 more times before he finally said just take the dang tree... by that time I wish I had driven further up the road because the tree was all beat ... But as ugly as this tree is it represents the meaning of Christmas in my house.

The true meaning of Christmas.....sticking it to the man.  Nice work being a total A-hole and keeping your tree.

So if I understand the new levels right, 4.7 on the NOAA predictor page is equivalent to the old 5.0 level?
