Decided to try raft the Carbon a couple weeks ago. Had two rafts and repelled one in below ricks and we put in at the top. Had a low flow (400cfs) which worked out fairly well for combining both sections and not making the top section to hairy. Trip went very well and somehow we made it down without any portages and the raft was able to fit through everything except the very last slot on the class 3 runout of the last rapid (landslide) and had to deflate her a bit to make her through. Jon, one of the rafters who repelled in, had a camera and was able to get a little footage of ricks. We had tried to get footage of this rapid before the trip and could not find any anywhere that had someone going down the rapid. Jon got a good shot of us coming down but somehow the zoom got screwed up and the kayak shots were too blurry. Hopefully this kinda helps though to see what ricks looks like from the bottom. Also threw in short vids of the 14 footer and the landslide rapid (landslide rapid looked much different than the previous videos we saw).

Nice job Dan, I know I was one of the naysayers but it looks like it went pretty well. Rick's slide is a scary river feature.
400 cfs for the Carbon is a great flow, the upper is reasonable enough and the lower has enough water to be fun.

I would have said don't go for it either, but now seeing the video, you guys made it look like a snap which I know is not the case. Nice work!

Looks like Landslide has changed again?

This was from December around 450 I think.

wow, cool footage! I'm jonesing to get on that one! Can anyone on here describe Rick's slide? Great footage, but I'm still having trouble seeing exactly what's going on, especially in terms of hazards (other than a boxed-out hole, and I can't see from the video just how bad it is.) Also, how do you get to the rappel point for the lower stretch?

Dave uploaded this video Long Long ago. It is perhaps the best visual aid to what Ricks Slide is and how to run it. http://professorpaddle.com/media/videoview.asp?File_Id=159 - Please Enjoy the Grandmaster and his Teaching
