Three of us took a low-water run down the Upper Green Gorge today. Not surprisingly, last week's ice and wind put some wood in the river. We put in at the bridge above KP. Here's what I can remember:
--Nuisance wood throughout the run. --Riverwide tree below the "three boofs" rapid that follows Ledge 2. At low flow, you could probably limbo/crash through in the center. Hassle at best. --Near-riverwide tree at a right bend after "three boofs." Gap on the right. --Tree from RL blocks the left entry to Pipeline. --Tree from RL in Mercury, halfway down. Straightforward ferry to move around but puts boaters in the center-right holes/rocks. --Logs parallel with the flow on either side of the Nozzle, upstream of it. The RL log would be a problem for somebody ferrying from L to R just above the Nozzle, below the guard rocks, so ferry above. Usual RL eddy below Mercury is clear. --Strainer in one of the drops below Mercury/Nozzle in the typical RR line. --Log on RL in the Paradise Bridge rapid, along the RL wall shortly above the falls. Easy to miss because it looks kinda like the usual wave/hole feature there. Runnable center-left at 1K and above, certainly a pin hazard at lower flow.
None of this stuff was too dicey at 1100, but would be more serious if the wood stays in place at higher flow, or for somebody who doesn't know the run. I'll add an alert on the river page.
