Anyone has recently paddled the NF Snoq. I am talking about the Class III run ABOEV Ernie's

Do people even run it?

I'd like to but the last time I went up there, I could not even find the takeout.

I figured if I cant find my way to the put-in / takeout, I should avoid the run ;-) especially with Ernie's lurking downstream

Would love to run that Class III section

Suggestions?

It's a fun run but you now have to pay for the privilege of walking 1.5 miles out on the logging road, unless you continue through Ernie's. Parking at the take out is a 4 way intersection (take out is the road that goes to the right as you drive in). I think it's about a mile or mile and a half walk, either way, if I remember right, there's only one bridge after you put on and that is the take out.

The put-in is where the road crosses the river right over an obvious class V. Hike downstream on river left (theres a trail or gated road, can't remember) and put in below.

It's a pretty good playboat run. Somewhere near the middle/end there's a couple of pretty decent waves/holes.

Grinch probably has better and more recent info.

Oh, and both times I went up there were with pretty large groups so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding people.

This run is a hidden gem for close to Seattle class 3.

It used to be a bread and butter run back in the 70s and 80s for local paddlers before the access became more limited by the previous landowner, Weyerhauser and now continued by the current land owner, Hancock Timber.

To run this stretch you need to access the put in and take out through their lands which requires a permit (even for walking in from the main road). Motorized permits are available but very expensive ($250) and everyone in the vehicle must have one. So if you have 4 of you in a group it would cost you $1000 to drive in to the takeout.

So we all walk. Walk in permits are much cheaper. You can get a day pass for $8.

You can drive to the put in without the motorized permit though I think??

Not really. You can drive up the NF County road but if you stop and walk in at any point that is within Hancock property you need to have a permit.

And the put-in isn't road-side. You can drive right to the river at Wagner bridge, but that's not the put in. Just downstream from that bridge is a classs 5+ drop. And the land all around the bridge is owned by Hancock.

The put-in is accessed by going just past the bridge and then hiking down a gated road that parallels the river on the east side of the river. About 1/4 mile down the road is the put-in.
