Hey all,
I'm just beginning to front surf and was wondering where some friendly waves are located? Are there any PnP spots for someone looking to build thier surf skills? If not, what runs have waves good for learning on? This includes recovery downstream. After all I'm learning.

| The last rapid on the powerhouse run has a pretty decent surf wave when levels are below, say, 1000 or so. Whenever a group is there, you can generally find people surfing that wave. |

The put in of the MM has an ok wave, as does the Sky at the Ben Howard Wave near Sultan. ------------- Sarah |

I don't know if Ben Howard is still around. It might be back in with the latest changes in flooding. Anyone have some good beta on this?

The Headworks on the Green has a couple of easy waves that are good for learning. Also the Powerhouse has two or three that will hold you (including the one listed above) when the levels drop below 700 cfs. There really aren't a lot of park and play spots. The best is Paradise Ledge - though I wouldn't necessary say that it's the best for beginners. If you have a buddy along, it might be good though. When spring rolls around you can hit the Wenatchee - lots of good stuff! There's an older video with some great tips on surfing and general playboating that helped my surfing tremendously - you can probably find it with a google search: Retendo! | Thanks for the tips. I've been practicing on the Headworks section, esp. the waves at the sandstone ledge between the bridge and the park. Last year there was a group surfing on the upper wave at the drop before the railroad drop. Ive seen others surfing on the wave at the bottom of the same drop. I haven't quite been able to ferry out onto the lower one successfully, but hey that's what practice is for! |
