This is the I hope the level holds! discussion thread. Please post any questions below. Remember the actual Trip Details are located on the I hope the level holds! | Trip Page Tobin and I are heading over Saturday morning to run Tumwater. Going to do the upper stretch above the canyon for warm up and then do the rest. I plan on running the Wall and Chaos, I don't know about POW. We'll probably camp Saturday night and do it again Sunday. Anyone interested?

Nice one Tom. Some familiar faces; I think the guy in the Col. Klink helmet is Mike Tennant
POW has definitely changed. I don't know if I would say it's worse though.
What's your minimum level to run it?

I don't know, but unless the current trend changes we should be fine this weekend. If nothing else, I'd run laps on the Wall. By the way, either Sat or Sun works for me now, do you have a preference?

Sounds great...I was thinking about maybe camping up there and running an early trip on Sunday as well. Where is everyone coming from? I live right off of 522 in Bothell to carpool with folks Sat Morning. Steve L. will be riding up late on Sat as well for an early morning run

Laps on the wall and Chaos would be sweet!
Actually, it may be better to go Saturday so we have a bit more water. Also, it took me a day or two to recover from last week. Man it sucks to get old

See ya all on the river,, its gonna be a good ass weekend!!

Yeah, the upper section is really low. If you want a warmup put in at Swiftwater, that will give you a couple warmup rapids and eliminate some of the really boney stuff.

Hi All,
If you don't mind another paddler I'd love to join you guys. I'm new to the area and have my own car so can meet you guys out there. I'm experienced in running grade IV and V in New England. Let me know if you've got room for another.
Thanks,
Darrel

Feel free to join us Darrel, I doubt anyone will mind. The run is roadside so you can always portage if you decide it's not what you expected. The level is pretty low so the run is really class IV with the exception of POW.
Where in NE?

Sounds good. I should be able to find the put-in OK, but is there a car/truck I should keep an eye out for? I'll be driving a black VW beetle with a yellow creek boat (it sounded a little boney for my playboat!).
Darrel.
P.S. I just moved out from Boston and paddled all over the White Mountains in NH plus most rivers out in the Berkshires. If you know the rivers a few of my favourites are Deerfield Dryway, Fall Creek (MA), Swift (NH), Kennebec, Dead, Penobscott (ME).

We should be easy to find. The run is right on hwy 2, look for us either just upstram of the green bridge (it is hard to miss) or a few miles downstream at the Swiftwater Picnic area. We will probably be in the downstream lot.
I went to HS in Maine so I was curious. I didn't paddle then with the exception of rafting the Penobscot and ran a class III river near my house in an 16' Oldtown canoe with no pfd. Ahh... the blissfull ignorance of youth.

Don't worry - I have a plan! We're just going up there for a few drinks, I'm going to crash at decent hour, and be that much closer to Leavenworth tomorrow. I won't be hung over and I'll even be well rested when we put in. Conversley, I may jack the flow of the Wenatchee up by about 100 cfs with recycled rum and beer.

Darrel, Dan (SupaSpa) and I are going to meet at the Starbucks in Monroe at 8:30 tomorrow. Dan needs to be back around 5 so we can't hang out for long after the run.
The address is: 19813 State Route 2, Monroe, WA if you want to google the map.

It was a great trip. Everyone was pretty much dead on with their lines and we worked well together as a team. No Bear sightings unfortunately but definitely one of the finest whitewater experiences I have had so far! Can't wait to get out their again at a little higher flows
