I'm new to Bellingham from North Carolina and excited about doing some winter paddling and would like to meet up with some local paddlers.  I've done only a little paddling in the PacNW in the past and most of that was in Chilliwack for slalom a couple years ago.  I'm an avid year round creek/whitewater paddler.  My background is in racing and have done considerable creeking in the SE, also I'm trying my hand at Surf Ski and am always game to hike for the whitewater.  Drop me a line if you live in the area! - DJ

Hey Dave, I have a friend I work with that lives in Bellingham and races surf skis. You may know him, Jim Z is his name. He also WW kayaks a bit.

What is the best whitewater around Bellingham for the winter.  I've been doing some walk-ups on the N-fork Nooksack and have been watching snow bunnies heading to the ski hill, but no boaters.

What has happened here... How did we loose another one to the Hampsters?

j/k
You will be treated well up there DJ. great scene, water and boaters.
2 things to consider quickly.

#1 Ignore everything dave says... 99% of it is useless information
#2 Watch out for a Guy named Dufay ... I hear he is wandering around the rivers up there mowing lawns for gas, pinchin buddies grass, and worst of all he has a pretty poor work ethic, callin in sick like 3 out of 5 days a week... the guy is a menace to the region and I have it on good word that he might be fleeing as a ww refuge to canada. Generally if you wish to maintain some sort of positive image, association with that guy is a bad idea, you may boat a bit more though.

DJ,

Check out bellinghamwhitewater.org for more beta and names of local boaters up there. We all chill and post here together but the hampsters have their own little group they keep tight up there. Its a nice little possie... I wish I could get in but they have some class V tests I can't seem to pass.

Oh yea and make sure you check out the BC stuff thats in your backyard too since your at the border...

DJ,
Welcome to the Ham.  I unfortunately won't be boating till mid Feb. due to some commitments I have made.  The B-ham crew is a great crew and you'll probably fit right in.  Dufay is a great boater, and don't let anyone else tell you different.  When the sun starts sticking around longer head out to the grocery @ nugents corner on thursday eve. and watch for boats on cars.

Welcome to bellingham. I have only been here for a few months, but the boating is great. I will probably be starting to go out again here in a few weeks, and hopefully the rest of the crew will want to as well.

A good place to meet boaters is at the Arne Hanne Pool on thursday and tuesday nights from 8-9 and on sundays from like 11-1.  They open the pool up for people to work on their rolls etc.  plus there is a hot tub there.

I'm pretty sure it's from 8-9, i might be wrong, you could call the pool and clarify.

Hey DJ,
welcome.  I am trying to get out to the "bend" on the nf nooksack this weekend...just got a new creeker and paddle, so there is motivation to run the bend in the cold and low.  Lotsa good boating up here, but there is lotsa good snow up here too (a good trade off).

let me know if you are down to boat
