What about...permanently change his/her avatar to something really embarrassing as a third option?

Not to be a Devils Advocate,  however?

Freedom of Speach?  Heard of it?
I, in my heart of hearts believe in this community, and I sincerly doubt one person, or a hundred have the power to disrupt it! If they do, well it's not as strong as we thought.
I have seen many peeps respond, and even praise Hugo for his comments. ( James included)  I told him he sucks! Now what?
Will I be banned, or subject to a vote if i piss someone off? I realize that the specifics are different, since I am known, and know many peeps here, I don't hide my identity, and only on occasion post derogitory remarks about others. But will I be put to a poll?
I have no idea who Hugo is, or I may. Who knows.
But I believe that his greatest offence, or ours, is his ability to divide this community.
Come On,  I know my freakin shoulder hurts, James is a wounded duck, it's cold and even though the snow pack is huge, we got no water? Can't we push some kayak porn in the ol' DVD and focus on what we all care about?
Think of the "epic" run off this spring, Stevens is at 175% of normal pack.
  **Stepping off my soap box**
  Good Day to You!!

PS.  I vote to not vote.  Its a decision, but a nonspecific one.

I don't think its worth banning him.  I actually find him funny.  That and I love looking at that sandwich.  I keep dreaming I will walk into some pizza place or sub shop and see one.

I don't think he's that disruptive. As long as he kayaks, I don't really care what he has to say. The only reason I really use to the internet for kayaking is to talk and share ideas about boating when I can't actually be doing it. I don't think anyone should be censored against what they want to say, as long as it's kayaking related, and the only real world result of Hugo's actions is that if I ever know who he is, that would affect how I treat him on the river, and if I would actually go kayaking with him.

I am totally 100% with Tobin... I don't think he even makes a dent in our community.

And if he does the dent adds personality like seam rust on my vanagon. I think your safe hugo... but a few more days will show for sure!!!

I don't think anyone should be banned for what they say, I think people should be banned for messing with river warnings etc.  My safety etc.  is not affected by malicious opinions, but it is from malicious techno-tampering.

i think newtobin makes a great point. furthermore, i think the real problem is that of those who participate in the feeding frenzy to the point where banning freedom of speech or those who exercise that right is even considered.
don't let it rent space in yo' heads, dudes. besides... chicks don't like whiners.

I am not going to do it!  I think everyone can agree I cause enough trouble without adding fuel to this fire.  I guess by even suggesting it I added fuel to the fire, but I thought it was an amusing suggestion.

I really agree with Justin, though.  Messing with river warnings is a legitimate reason for expulsion...

My 2 cents...

Banning should be reserved for those who violate basic moral standards, ie deleting river warnings, sleeping with others wives then posting the video...   You know, serious offenses.  LOL.   Giving someone shit for being a republican, making fun of one another and calling people out on BS,  need not apply.

I find his posts to be truthfull as he sees it, most likely  he uses it as an outlet for fear of being judged for what he really thinks.  Do i agree with him, not always... do believe he goes too far sometimes? yes.    But I also believe stirring of the pot is healthy, it keeps people real, it demands rebuttal,  and  ignites discussion.

Flame the fires, just stay away from the married women

Just to make sure that it does not go down that road, it is not Hugo the great that is messing with the river warnings.  After all, Hugo really loves safety...

What if we don't post the video?

Who the heck cares?  If hugo wants to be a jackass, then we get to exercise our fundamental right to ignore tools.

Trolls only get play if idiots can't skip over the inflammatory posts.  If you're going to ban someone, ban the people who can't leave the troll alone.  A troll post is a single post.  And trolls can't handle being ignored.

I haven't read a single hugo post that added anything to this forum.  At the same time, I haven't been at all bothered that he posts.  I'm sure some poeple feel that way about my posts lol

Move along.

I guess this is your carte blanche to keep at it... Enjoy you little bastard...

Oh and by the way I don't want to get anymore PM's or Phone calls about the Hugonater...  You all wrote the cheque ... so let him cash it...

If I were moderator, I would BAN the people calling an admin to bitch about posts.

LAME!!!!

Live and let live people, damn, just ignore the stupid posts.

It's like this:  You're in the eddy above a huge horizon line.  You can see the top 10 feet of a 200 year old Cedar tree growing up from below the drop.  It sounds like a wind tunnel, or Sea-Tac's tarmac.  Fish looks over and says "I've never been here before, but it sounds like left angle is good on this one."

What do you do?  YOU IGNORE IT and scout.

( sorry bud, had to get one in lol )

Fish, since when do you stay away from married women?

I'm with Brian on this one. All this panty-bunching over a yakkoff like hugo means we all must need something better to do.

Get to work, Leif.

One thought, that would protect the free speech rights of posters, but could keep the trolls down, would be to add an ignore user feature. If you don't like the posts from a specific user you could just add them to an ignore list, and you wouldn't ever have to see anymore of their posts.

I guess I don't know the history here.  I wouldn't want anyone banned for what they say, unless, like stated above, someone screws with the river updates and the safety of our fellow boatmen..

As much as people have a right to say what they want to say, people also have a right to listen to what they want to listen to.

If you don't like what Hugo has to say then don't read his posts or you can argue and name call with him till the cows come home and the rest of us can ignore the whole exchange.  Hate speech isn't free speech but for any of it to mean anything someone's  got to listen.

Horner says let Hugo be his crazy self and if he's that bad then he'll work himself out of the group.  If you are feeling a little bitchy now and again seek out his posts and let him have it!!!
