Who is headed up to BC this weekend?

I am going to plan on making it up to BC either this weekend or the next weekend.

If anyone is going up for an extended weekend lets hear your plans. It would be great to carpool on this one.

James

We just got back from the Nahatty and it was sweet.  We checked out Shovel Creek and Big Silver on the way back (long ass bumpy road!) and they both looked like they had enough water to run for the next week or so.  I'm out for next weekend though - have fun!

Hey did you drive back on Kookapei point road?

Update on that road status would be great. Thanks

Yep, we were in King Chili and it did fine - the road is clear, but quite bumpy - would recommend 4wd and high clearence.  There are a few spots where culverts are starting to wash out which require some caution, but the road is passable, as long as you aren't worried about bouncing around, getting dusty, and scratching the heck out of your paint job (lots of close growing alder trees).

What was the level on the Nahatlach????? Did you get on the canyon run?

Extended weekend next weekend (the weekend of August 16th) might be doable.  I was thinking of doing the White Salmon that weekend, but would like to make sure and get on callaghan this year...

Nahatlatch was 1.8-1.9.  Ran the canyon in play boats; no carnage (except for rafts)...

Big Silver looks good to go - perhaps a solid medium in the canyons, though I haven't run it, so I don't know for sure.  Shovel creek (the one that flows into big silver, along the road prior to the junction with big silver main) looks quite interesting.  I'd say they should have water in them for another few weeks.  The amount of snow left is unbelievable.  (Jeff - can you post the picture you took?)

Well the only way I am going to be up there this weekend is if I have a ride... Anyone want to go check out Big Silver? That one goes early season so if it ain't close to done already it will be soon.

The Stave gauge is around 35cms and dropping, which would translate to around the flows we had on our last trip with James & The Doof Abides (pretty low).  Doesn't mean there isn't things to do there.  Flows spiked up to decent levels over the weekend when that crew drove by.  I assume that was from rain.

We've figured you'd want flows around 70 - 100 cms for the upper canyons on BS.

I'm bummed I missed BS this year.

Questions regarding Big Silver...first, how far up is the take out/put in for the upper canyons. Second, has anyone run shovel creek?

Whistler is sounding like a sure fire bet, BS sounds  done for the season but if you were going to get lucky this would be the weekend. Jon did you get on BS this year?

The putin for the upper canyon is at the base of the 30 footer that is all cracked out at the top. You can barely see it from the road.

Hi James,

I have to go to the US embassy in Vancouver to get a new visum. Would be awesome if I can combine that with paddling next weekend(8/15-8/17). Means basically that I have to hit the US embassy on friday and on Tuesday, or Thursday and Monday. (  they need a day to finish the visum ). I would carpool if somebody is willing to stick around while I let them carefully check that my intentions towards this country are still friendly. Otherwise I would drive alone and meet kayak crews at the river. Still good for shuttle car!

I'm new to this forum, but I'd love to get on a White Salmon trip the weekend of the 16th, 23rd or 30th.

I'll leaving for whistler tomorrow (Friday) morning and will be there all weekend.  Anyone else going to be there?  We're camping at the Cheakamus campground just south of function junction.  Let me know if you want to get out for a run.  Looks like levels are in.

I'm headed up Saturday night to get feared on Elaho, coming back Monday night. Sounds like the Ashlu is still high and Whistler is getting dry...
