I'm writing to get some beta on the B-ham area. My wife to be and I are moving out there this October and I'm really trying to sell her on the area. What the kayaking like in and around b-ham? What are  the backyard runs and when to they run? Is there good class III and IV for the ladies? Park and playspots?Any other good details that could psych up my lady?

I've always just assumed the B-ham area is off the hook with mt baker right there, the ocean, access to BC, mtn biking etc... but don't know many specifics about the area. What is town life like in B-ham?

Thanks a bunch,

Moving sight unseen eh?  Lucky for you Bellingham is a town you can probably do that with.  Your lady will probably like it just fine.  I have several friends who range from city to mountain girls and they all enjoyed Bham a lot during their four years there.  The boating scene is small but seems pretty tight, I'll let them chime in on the local runs.

Jon misspelled the website address, its http://www.bellinghamwhitewater.org/

Galbraith mountain has good mountain biking, worth purchasing a trail map. I live downtown and ride from my house to the top.

THe nooksack river is our local one, a good class three run, above that is a class IV+ run.

if you like the outdoors you'll like bellingham

There are chics here (not that John Dufay knows any) and many of them are into playing outside.
I don't know if I could call myself a "lady", but I will testify that Bham is a rad place to be. Mtn biking, paddling, sea kayaking to the San Juans, climbing, friendly people. You can get around town just fine by bike, and to go boating- the Nooksack is less than an hour driving. I really love it here.
Great town for yuppies- big community of people who work hard and play harder and like to drink good beer afterwards.

bellingham is pretty much all you could ask for in a boating and skiing town with the exception of any stellar playspots. however, it has gotten me into creeking. the local crew is great. i am always down to boat midweek, and weekends. there are all kinds of people to paddle with so dont be shy.
