Caught a glimpse of this story on the news where a middle aged man had just made a jump over Canyon Cr. and was hanging 25 ft above the river when the bungie broke.

Looks like the log jam finally made the news

Lucky guy, it broke right after he reached the low point in his jump. Survived, says he'll jump again.

It's not really luck that caused the cord to break under tension near the low point (more like physics).  I would say it would be surprising if it broke at some other point.

Well, it would break at a point when there was force on it... but that could have been when he was still going very fast...  Luckily for him it was strong enough to slow him down enough to survive

Here is a video!  You can see teh logjam in it too!

Nice clarity there, Tom. Luck is an ambiguous term thrown about too often when harder laws are at play such as Physics!

Personally, I never had a desire to Bungee Jump because it seems too harsh for my sensibilities. I'd much rather jump out of a plane with a parachute.

This proves just how important it is that the state clears out the wood under the bungie bridge. Call your senator! Had the wood not been there, this tragedy could have been avoided.

that's right. With a properly groomed "rivertrail" this person may have been encouraged to enjoy this beautifull place in a much safer and saner form of recreation than bungee jumping. Maybe Barack Obama will hire some of us dirtbag kayakers to be the river equivelent of a trail crew. Include THAT in your stimulus bill, Mr. President! and Thank you.

We could then Nominate Hoover as Secretary General of wood removal!!!
