I have a few things to throw out there that have been constant items of interest from a few folks. Read below and post your thoughts so it can be changed with community concensus.
1. Edit Post This feature was removed after alot of people complained about someone posting BS then starting a thread war, and going and pulling the original post down. More or Less making the thread no longer understandable. People complained so it was removed, Now folks are complaining because they want to edit their posts (not just you paul ). We can't have both, so which one?
2. Battle of the Alias As we all know more and more fakers have plagued the board. I personally am not a fan of the covers, but it is a mode to free and un-harnessed speech. My personal opinion is that on and off the river we should all be accountable for our actions and choices. Fake Names provide an outlet to avoid accountability. Last time we discussed removing the Hugonator, everyone was against it. Now with more fake posters than ever will we have a different opinion?
3. Boulder Drop Dash Quite a few people have discussed an informal boulder drop dash for fun. It would not be a race, it would be a brawl @ boulder. Rafts and inflatables would be preferred and pool toys and seyvlor rafts would be ideal... Most creative river craft prize and Most Carnage Filled Run Prize. Two goals both sure to bring fun in the sun. It's not going to take a ton of planning, I just want to gauge interest and if there is some, I will throw it together.
So there you have it 3 items to discuss. Lets hear it !!

#1 - I like to be able to edit my posts, not for the stated reasons, but because my typing sucks.
#2 - Hugo??? Oh hell, he is a mouse that tries to speak with a bullhorn, he is only a problem if you acknowledge his existence.
#3 - Bring it. I got an inflatable crocodile I need to find a use for, and if I am still banged up, I'll take pictures.
------------- Sure?

What Tobin said. But on the first point, maybe make it so you can edit without completely removing the post. That way you can see that a post was there, or edited, so you at least have an idea why the thread doesn't make sense.

OH Yeah, and give Leif his fake name only put "leif" somewhere in the nickname. It's not like we wouldn't know who it was anyway.

1. I like the edit feature, and think it it more useful, than harmful.
2. Keep the Alias going. Hugo is entertaining!
3. LOVE THE IDEA of the boulder drop dash!!! Sounds like a great way to build crazy floating devices and wreck them in boulder drop.

I'd be in for the Brawl at Boulder, esp. if the water level is up.

Great Feedback, Keep it coming - So Far the Survey Says
1. Edit : Turn the feature back on 2. Alias : Continue the game of Hide and Seek 3. Brawl @ Boulder ( 4k - 8k )
I would love more feedback before I turn back on the edit feature. Just FYI, You never could remove a post, and edited on xx/xx/xxxx is always added, but if you allow editing nothing stops someone from just removing all the words they posted leaving a blank post.

Regarding #1: Why not have the edit feature turned on for a given time interval say 10 min and lock it down once a thread gets going to preserve the original context? #2: Having alias is cool but perhaps throw a disclaimer to unveil the mask if things get too ugly and goes overboard. should a line be drawn when enough is enough? #3: Doesn't apply to me since I'm still a BD noob at those levels.
------------- boof it for crying out loud

i like what skim said, if that is possible, regarding a time-limited editing period. I've often posted things with typos or that make no grammatical sense, and wanted to fix it after pushing POST. But locking it after that would keep the thread from being confused.
------------- "That boated a lot better than it looked." "It always does until it doesn't."

1. It's nice to be able to fix typos
2. I'm thinking I need an alias with my real name, so people know who I am.
3. Hell Yeah!!!!

Skim - Unfortunately no extra special programming has been approved by the Board. (I am of course just blaming the Board since there really is no Board. I just don't have the time)
Also just because your new to the drop at those levels does not mean you should not be into the brawl... Getting served is what this event will be all about, safe and sound, but still soggy swimmin!!!!

I don't care about the other stuff, but the Boulder dash sounds like fun!
WE should set up multiple rescue kayaks on both sides of the river in multiple eddies though, some of us don't swim all that great you know... like meeeeee....

1. Edit - yes please, for reasons stated above
2. Alias - I don't think an alias or not is going to stop the bs that goes down on this site from time to time. I just quit reading and get disappointed in humanity. Sometimes I laugh. Sometimes I want to break out in song with "What the world needs now, is love sweet love. It's the only thing, that there's just... too little of."
3. This sounds like fun. The summer is filling up fast so I don't know that I can commit to being there. But, we had an event like this on the SF American in California at TroubleMaker Rapid called the "Toe-Up Cup"and it was a blast! Party for raft guides on a Monday. There were official kayak races and play competitions, but the real fun was the Cup at the end that was just the kind of thing James is proposing above. My all time favorite was the "Ultimate Picnic" craft -- two big coolers ducktaped together, complete with a big picnic umbrella and plastic fruit attached to the top. There it goes into the hole! Sumo wrestling suits, float toys, small overloaded rafts... Wow, wear your helmet.

Just to Re-Cap since the Robe Thread was just obliterated and responses are being PM'd to me as fast as un-employment applications...
1. We have 8 for Yes to the Edit and one for I don't care but none against it.
2. Alias gets 7 Ya, and 1 Nay. Not to many people mind the fakers.
3. Boulder Brawl is for sure ... I am in the process of planning it now. I will have a dates poll up pretty soon!

I'll step up and oppose the edit feature.
So, I'm trying to read my way through the Robe Race thread, and half the damn posts are purged.
I
like that I can edit a typo or something, but I don't like that someone
can spout off in an ill-advised emotional rant, then delete any
evidence. Trying to reconstruct the conversation never works, cause
half of it is missing. It also prevents people from maybe thinking "do
I really want to post this" because they can always delete it all.
Given
how much people are griping about the tone of posts, I wonder if
disabling the edit function for a while might be a way to get people to
stand up for what they post. If we don't allow aliases, why do we
allow people to delete their whole post, multiple times, when their
comments are what is fueling everyone else's comments?
Is summary, nix the edit feature, and nix aliases.

And for the record, I have spouted off on ill-advised emotional rants myself. Guilty -- my bad; sorry for anyone on the receiving end or even having to read that drivel.
However, those posts are still out there. I haven't deleted them.

Then there's the other problem of people misquoting you.

I like to be able to delete comments and replace with a smile when the panties-in-a-bundle index reaches about 0.73 bundles per panty. It's like the online equivalent talcum powder.

Man you ain't kidding. I read old posts on this site and there are simply TONS of blank posts by you.
Maybe, if the post generated that much angst and needed to be deleted, it would have been better not to make such a post in the first place? I don't really understand all your deletions -- either you think you have a point, in which case it should stand so I can read it and come to my own conclusion about your post, or you didn't have a point to make and probably shouldn't have posted.
The deleted posts shout "I'm taking my ball and going home!" to me.
For myself, I shouldn't have posted several things. They don't reflect that well on me, but hey, I own them and leave them up.

Quotes are interesting as Joe says, because they can be edited. Often as I'm reading a thread with all these redacted comments, my only clues are in what people quoted, because the quoted post has been deleted.
It just really sucks to try to read a thread that's missing several posts -- and often they are critical posts to the overall tenor of the thread.
As I read this site, I see a helluva lot of griping about the general tone and style of discourse around here. Maybe making a post, knowing it will remain after you hit submit, and not being able to edit posts to make yourself look better in hindsight would encourage people to post a little thoughtfully and responsibly. God knows we need it, Mountain Buzz is more civil than this place lately, and that ought to be embarrassing to all of us. At least on the Buzz, people own their sh!t talking.

It seems like before today, it had been quit some time since I deleted a post. Am I miss remembering. As far as today goes, I was told to "F---" off. I interpreted that as a request to remove my opinions (which I make no apologies for, and do stand by).

I don't have stats or anything; I'm just going off something that I
have noted to myself several times over a period of many months. Not
trying to target you in particular Leif, I've just noticed it on your
posts. Certainly others here do the same thing.
Frankly, this site is only 4th or 5th on my list of whitewater forums
to follow -- and I don't on a daily basis. A large part of that is the
WKC-style angst/circular firing squad. I'm prone to angst myself, so I
try to avoid things that stir it up in me.
Things like Joe and his 4th grade level humor. Where's my green nalgene, you %$#$&*
